Morganst
Hello, I've always used Sodium Hydroxide for soaping but was wondering if there's a difference between that and Potassium Hydroxide? Is there a difference in the finished product, one easier to work with over the other? etc etc.Would love to get your opinions. Thanks
LaVida
potassium hydroxide (potash) is for liquid soap making - it is more soluble also and less dangerous (although dangerous if not handled with care)... sodium hydroxide (common lye) is for bar soap... Morganst
Oh, OK. Thanks for the enlightenment. I guess I'll be sticking with my usual since I don't make liquid soap.S
LaVida
I started with liquid soap making first because i thought bar soap was hard. *l*... It's a painstakingly LONG process! It's worth the outcome however.... I documented the process I use (from Makig natural liquid soap by catherine failor)....http://360.yahoo.com/la77nycheck the liquid soap album
Morganst
WOW - that looks fascinating!! I'll have to go back and watch it again. Gonna slow down the slide show so I follow all the words. I would really like to make my own shower gel. I researched pre-made gel bases but didn't care for the ingredients so finally gave up. Hmmmm....now you've given me something to think about. Could you use your creation as a shampoo also? Thanks so very muchS
