lexismommy23
Ok I got my box of pariffin wax today. I used a mini muffin pan and those silicone heart trays from Target. The tarts came out with tons of imperfections that they picked up from the molds. Like the muffin pan is a Wilton non-stick pan. It has sort of a speckled texture. The tarts have all types of tiny holes and dips from the pan. Same thing with the silicone molds. Am I being too anal? Are there any muffin pans that would make these come out smooth? I want the tart to be smooth and imperfection free like the tops. Is this possible? My soy wax and my soy blend, neither do this. They are nice and smooth. Help, lol!! Luci
What kind of wax did you use? I have one of those pans that I got at Walmart last week. I've only made one batch, but they came out smooth on all sides. I used 4625.
dpowell
You'll find that those silicone ice cube tray molds will leave light colored spots and slight imperfections. The ones I've been using are almost done for, they are starting to loose their shape a bit. At least they are cheap.
lexismommy23
Luci . . it's IGI 4794. Is it the Wilton one?
lexismommy23
dpowell . . Thanks! I'm way too anal to keep these things like this. I'm wondering if a cheapy pan that doesn't have the non-stick coating would work better? I really don't want to go to the individual tart molds if possible. Luci
Yes, it's the red one with 12 cavities.
butterfly
You may want to consider clamshells. Easy to pour and no packaging issues. Just PM me if you would like to try some.
lexismommy23
Luci . . . is it silicone? I have a Wilton metal muffin pan, it has 24 spots I think?
lexismommy23
butterfly . . that's very sweet of you! Thanks for offering. I already have 100 or so clamshells here. I really wanted to try some shapes, etc. It's just not working out for me, LOL.
Luci
Yes, it's silicon. My sister had picked up one of those bags of a dozen silicon cupcake cups. I liked how the tarts popped out. I also like making them with embeds for something a little fancier. I went to Walmart looking for another dozen. When I didn't find them in the baking section, I eventually made my way back to the crafts. There was a Wilton display with Vday stuff, etc., so I bought the "muffin" pan. They are heart shaped, popped out just fine, smooth as can be. Since I'm new at this, I know that I'll have to give out a lot of samples, etc., testing, so I also liked that the cavities hold less than the cupcake ones. BTW--the cupcake ones are in the craft section, too.I just got a dozen clamshells. I really like doing those, but I like to work with shapes, etc., and try to be a little creative. I know they melt into a blob, but still ..... .....
dpowell
Yeah, just recently went from the shapes to the clamshells. I like them much better, although the shapes are nice as well.I guess I'll just buy a set of the heart or various ice trays every once in a while for holidays and stuff. butterfly
Well for "shapes" I hve used candy molds. Just be careful not to pour too hot. And have not had any blemishes. HTH
