Etched Pillar Effect

Recommended Posts

Hello All! I tried a search on this but could'nt find anything as I dont know what to call this....Does anyone know how to get this effect on the surface of a pillar? What kind of tools work best for this? I'm assuming it was just a solid pillar and then something was used to make a criss crossed pattern on the surface, right? I actually tried wrapping a piece of screen around it and while heat gunning the sides, I pulled it tighter to leave an imprint, but geez, there has to be a better way and it didnt turn out very well.... Anyone know?

Their are many different types, styles & sizes of wire brushes. I would suggest a wire brush with brass bristles, it makes for a better look.

Once you brush the candle in one direction use a soft bristle paint brush to brush the wax dust caused by the wire brush. Then wire brush in the other direction and brush off dust. Then you are left with a chalky look on the candle. To get rid of the chalk lightly heat the candle with a heat gun. Don't leave the heat gun in one place to long or place the heat gun to close to the wax, you don't want drip marks.

Good Luck
