flutterbye Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Hello All! I tried a search on this but could'nt find anything as I dont know what to call this....Does anyone know how to get this effect on the surface of a pillar? What kind of tools work best for this? I'm assuming it was just a solid pillar and then something was used to make a criss crossed pattern on the surface, right? I actually tried wrapping a piece of screen around it and while heat gunning the sides, I pulled it tighter to leave an imprint, but geez, there has to be a better way and it didnt turn out very well.... Anyone know? Quote
SatinDucky Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 It's a bit hard to tell in the picture, but it looks like the ol' wire brush treatment Quote
flutterbye Posted January 3, 2007 Author Posted January 3, 2007 Thats what I thought. I had seen a post mentioning this. But what kind of wire brush do you use? I'm not too familiar. Do you know where I could get one? Thanks! Quote
judyvega Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 you can get the wire brush anywhere - the one I use is a grill cleaner - you know the type? You can get them at walmart for a couple of bucks. hth. Quote
flutterbye Posted January 3, 2007 Author Posted January 3, 2007 Awesome guys, Thanks! I think I can find that on my trip to wal mart tonight. Thanks Again! Quote
Candle Man Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Their are many different types, styles & sizes of wire brushes. I would suggest a wire brush with brass bristles, it makes for a better look.Once you brush the candle in one direction use a soft bristle paint brush to brush the wax dust caused by the wire brush. Then wire brush in the other direction and brush off dust. Then you are left with a chalky look on the candle. To get rid of the chalk lightly heat the candle with a heat gun. Don't leave the heat gun in one place to long or place the heat gun to close to the wax, you don't want drip marks.Good Luck Quote
