newhobby
Hello,Would anyone know if Veggie wax shrinks when cooling like the paraffin wax does?Vickie
lindsaycb
I would have to say...of course there is shrinkage. Melted wax of any sort takes up more room than it does when its in solid form. Correct?
topofmurrayhill
They do all shrink, but plain paraffin is one of the shrinkiest substances known to man. It's important to note, however, that paraffin-based container blends aren't plain paraffin. They're a mixture of ingredients designed not to shrink much. It helps to cool the candles slowly and evenly, but you can definitely get a flat surface. It's safe to say that vegetable blends shrink less on the average. Despite this, the extent to which they do shrink can be a big problem. These waxes aren't very elastic like the paraffin based stuff, so the shrinkage can cause pits and pockets and cracks. Paraffin based blends usually just get a depression in the middle when it doesn't work out ideally.
newhobby
Thank you for your response. This KY Votive/Pillar blend has hardly shrunk but I poked holes anyway.
Beth-VT
IMO veggies (palm, anyway) can shrink quite q bit. It's all interior though. It adheres totally to the container, and the tops cool flat as a pancake, but you get wicked shrink inside. Relief holes and re-pours are a must.
