moniek
Has anyone ordered or got the buffalo chip mold from Pourette? I just ordered one and was wondering if anyone had any pics to post. Suppose to be for firestarters.
Trae
I make them using straw. Kinda gross looking but they work great!
moniek
Those look great! Thanks for sharing. Do you sell alot of them?
Trae
I sold a lot last Christmas. People bought them as gag gifts. I put 2 in a bag for $1. To make it easier, I bought one of those mini hay bales from the craft store and just pulled pices out of that to make the chips. Just keep the straw in a bag because it gets everywhere. Have fun with it!
gingerinarkansas
Are buffalo chips used for firestarters? Ginger
Trae
Yep! You just put one on tup of some crumpled newspaper. Last a pretty long time.
moniek
Thanks, that helps alot. Do you use the brown color all the time, or just left over scrap wax? The dark brown would look more like the real thing I guess.
julwid
those are really handy to have around this time of year. i bet they would be a good seller and i dont know why you could not use just old scrap wax. i will have to check out this mold
Trae
I pretty much only use scrap wax for these because I was accumulating waaayyy too many pinecone firestarters! I just add brown liquid dye to every batch of scrap wax. If you use container wax that is too soft, just pop the mold into the freezer for a bit and the chip will pop right out. I highly recommend getting the bag topper card that Pourette sells because it explains what they are and how to use them.
