Henryk
Last time I posted about mushrooms.I'm wondering if I'm trimming my wicks to short with gel. I trim them to the standard 1/4" (51z) and the flame is, I think too small. I'm going to watch next time to see if this is what is contributing to my on-going mushroom problem. I just did another set and I think I trimmed them too small. The flame is too small IMO. Perhaps then when I trim the mushroom off, it just repeats that the wick is then too small.Do you guys leave them longer initially, and then cut to the standard 1/4"?TIA
Vicky_CO
I always leave my wicks a little long in gel I never really thought about why I did it just did. You may be on to something there.
Henryk
I hope so - because I literally cannot get beyond this - I just can't complete a good burn in a gel candle. I've switched to a different supplier's zinc wicks now, I've taken the priming off, colored VERY sparingly, switched FOs, and have gone down to 2.5% FO, and everything else I can think of. Going to give it one more try!
CrystalClear
Yep. I found I have to leave them longer initially to start otherwise I won't get a good burn pool going or a good flame. After burning it for about 4 hours, then I trim it and I have had no problem with them burning after that.
sdcopeland@mchsi.com
hi henry, I use champagne flutes for most of my gel candles. Mostly strawberries and cream. for the last 5 years these have been big sellers for me. i currently use the small gelwix from bc. it burns clean no insulation;) but that has not been a problem(lots of test burning, and others have test burned for me)
Henryk
Thanks for all the replies - Crystal, sounds just like what you are describing. I will on the next set leave them longer to begin with - I guess I just never left enough wick "to work with" - and once its too short, its always too short.
