Rustic Layers

Recommended Posts

May be a stupid question, but here it goes... When making three layer pillars with 3 different colors, which color wax do you fill the relief holes with?
I wouldn't call it a stupid question since it's a question that's obviously going to come to mind when you think about how you're going to make your candle, but it sometimes it surprises me when people are so caught up in what everyone else would do instead of doing their own thing. You're the candlemaker.

The answer is that you can fill the relief holes with any wax you want and it'll work. There's no answer more "right" than that.

Obviously that wax can affect the melt pool somewhat (color and/or fragrance) for whatever layer it's penetrating, so you might want to take that into account when making your decision.

Thanks,

Andy:rolleyes2

Since I don't poke the relief holes until after the last layer is setting up, my final pour is the color of the last layer.

OK gang. One more question. I poured a layered rustic today FIRST ONE. I poured 4 layers all at 150. It's still in the mold, I have to do the fill the poke holes pour. The candle is pretty well set up is it gonna be right (or wrong) to fill the holes at 170. PLEASE

170 is fine. Last pour is the bottom of the candle; it won't show. You can even pour 180 if you want to,

I do the same like e's instructions. I keep my temps about 145-150 depending on summer/ winter times. I do heatgun the layer slightly or if the wax is slightly higher by 5-10 degrees pour NOT so much to bind the layers together but more for aesthetic reasons cos i cant stand it if the layer seam is not smooth lol. Poking relief holes all the way 80% of the pillar secures the layers together at the end.
