hewells
I am trying to make a recipe similar to a castille bar, but adding witch hazel and tea tree oil to it. My question is how do I substitute some of the water for the witch hazel? Here is the recipe that I have. TIA to anyone who may know the answer.6.08 water2.05 lye13.6 Olive oil1.6 castor oil.8 Tea tree oil
cmille3
I use tea tree all the time. Treat it like any other FO/EO.For the witch hazel, I'd treat it like water.
eugenia
Just subtract the amt of witch hazel from the water.

guppygirl
Just curious as I've never used witch hazel in soap - are you using store bought w/alcohol or a hydrosol w/out alcohol? wondering how alcohol would affect the soap?
hewells
Just curious as I've never used witch hazel in soap - are you using store bought w/alcohol or a hydrosol w/out alcohol? wondering how alcohol would affect the soap?Well I haven't made it yet, but I was just going to get the one from the store, and that is an awesome question....I guess we will see....the whole trial and error thing. I did read that the wh/water mix will turn yellow when the lye is added. I am just trying to find something that will help calm down hidradenitis suppurativa, which is a non-contagious, recurrent disease affecting areas of the body where there is skin to skin contact such as the armpits, groin and where apocrine glands and hair follicles are found. There is no known cure for this. Recommendation is antibacterial soap, antibiotics, surgery. But if you can get control of them they rarely grow into debilitating lesions. Some people can get them as large as baseballs.
