Candle Makin Momma Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 I make Country Berry Hotcakes containers using Ezsoy and Orchid dye chips ( 1 pp)Just recently I keep getting greenish spots on my candles. Like one side will have this greenish tint to the purple. What is causing that? And how do I stop it? Quote
Demenshia Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 how long before it changes colors? If it's over a long period it could be one side is sitting in the light? I've noticed my purples do that if I leave them in the light(not just direct sunlight either). Quote
Candle Man Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 I had the same thing happen with blueberry FO. They were colored blue and over time would fade to a moss green color. You need to add UV additive to keep it from fading. Quote
Candle Makin Momma Posted May 8, 2006 Author Posted May 8, 2006 THis last batch happened over night. Before I would just have a little spot or two and that happened over time. But this was fast.So I should use a UV inhibitor? Quote
Fern-Marie Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I had the same problem about two months-three ago while trying to get 'Spring' florals made. The lilac....same thing. What I did was to heat to 175, and add the dye, and stir gently, but three times longer than anything else I normally would do. Then, I added the FO at 140 instead of my usual temp, and did the same. It was more time-consuming, but in the end I was satisfied that the extra attention alleviated the problem I only had the problem with Lilac. It was almost as though the color was coming apart(?), but I had pinks showing up. Now, it certainly didn't look like that in the pot, nor when I poured. It was the next day when I noticed it. I thought that maybe I hadn't blended it long enough. Well, it worked for me. It was an odd thing to see. Quote
Fern-Marie Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 ...I'm sorry, I should have specified...I was using Orchid dye chips. The purples too, yes you are right, I have seen the green. But same thing..I made sure that the chips were fully melted, dissolved, and well blended... even by putting them in a bit of wax and melting them apart from the batch. I think that is what happened with yours, they are not melting and blending fully. Quote
Candle Makin Momma Posted May 8, 2006 Author Posted May 8, 2006 I will try that seperate wax thing. I can't find my camera of course. Quote
