Experimental, but ...

Scented

Recommended Posts

Just experimenting on the soap calc, but was curious about thoughts on this recipe as I would be a noob. This is without any discount.

20% Olive oil

15% Castor oil

10% Lard

15% Palm Kernel

7% Babassu

5% Mango Butter

10% Coconut

15% Soybean

3% Emu oil

Now if I interpret the qualities right, it wouldn't be an overly hard bar, but just gets over that range of acceptable or what you want. It would be cleansing with lather and bubbles (which fall close together in the 34 and 30 range ... and maybe that's a bad thing?) Iodine is 64, but I'm having a heck of time getting the INS up to the 145-165 range. This one gets to 140, but whatever I sub in just drops the number.

Any thoughts?

I'd drop the castor down at least by 5%, if not down to 5%. Higher than 5% I find my soaps very sticky, not just soft but sticky for a few weeks.

Is that soybean oil hydrogenated (solid form) or not? If not, I might think of upping your solid/hard butters by 5% too.

If you do the following recipe you will get these numbers on soap calc

44 24 51 29 24 59 150

7% Babassu

15% Castor oil change to 5%

10% Coconut change to 15%

3% Emu oil

10% Lard to 15%

5% Mango Butter

20% Olive oil

15% Palm Kernel

15% Soybean

I would make this bar if it were me.
