Janis
From time to time, I have heard folks say that the sap value for coconut oil on the various soap calcs may be wrong, and that's why coconut oil is so drying in soap. Does anyone have any info on this?
Bunny
I've heard the same thing, but can't give you any info.. It was at the dish, and I believe it was SkippyAK who knew about it.
RobinInOR
Olivia at the Wisk used to talk about it too. But darned if I kept notes on what SAP value you could use instead. It would probably have been mentioned on the soapdisharchive site somewhere. You could do the same thing by using the normal sap value and just upping your lye discount a couple of points I bet. Janis
Thanks to both of you. I think I'll check it out in the archives at the dish. Olivia was the last one I heard mention it, actually. She said what you said, Robyn...just superfat more. I was just wondering how "wrong" the number is and if that has anything to do with my body's reaction to co. I sure would love to use it, but just can't right now, lol.
Gene
Olivia was using one of the lower sap values. I beleive several people decided on somewhere around
Janis
Wow, that is a lot lower than the soap calcs. Thanks, Gene.
Gene
Actually the sap used for 100% coconut was .138!Check out the thread http://www.the-whisk.us/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5158&highlight=coconut&sid=56a52d73807ca550ac08a874c0d11446
Janis
Yeah, but check out the soap calc, Gene.http://www.soapcalc.com/calc/oillist.aspActually, I could go to 3 or four different calculators and come up with a different number. Go figure:tongue2:
Grannyscandles
Why on earth doesn't someone correct the Soap Calculators?
Gene
Thats what the discussion was about. The .138 was for virgin coconut on RJ's calc
Janis
Sorry, Gene, I didn't read the whole thing. So Olivia used the sap number for vco instead of co - 138. Hmmm, it's gets more interesting by the minute. Why would the sap for co be any different that vco? Probably isn't.
