Denise06
Just wanted to know how you center your wicks. My wicks look centered, but, when they harden and I go to lit them, they, not not centered. WHY?
Crafty1_AJ
Wax shrinks as it cools and moves the wick unless you secure it in the center. Are you securing the top of the wick as the candle cools?Edited to show you a picture of my high-tech wick setting system. ROFL
Denise06
yes, I use a wick centering tool.Should I pull up on the wick while the candle is drying?
Crafty1_AJ
Yes. I secure my wicks in the center of the candle as they cool by attaching them with a clothespin to a clean popsicle stick. If they are still a bit loose, I tuck a folded piece of paper underneath the stick to make sure they don't wiggle. Once they are taut, the wicks stay centered and don't move around while cooling.Sorry about my lame joke -- my system is far from high tech. Hence my little goofy statement! LOL I have latent comic tendencies, unfortunately. When the funnygirl in me pops up her ugly head, I either have to let her out for the moment or beat her back into submission. Hope that helps! Edited to add: By the way, the candles on the right had already cooled down, so I removed the sticks and clothespins.

ladysj
Well how totally cool!!! I bought clothespins and popscicle sticks just couldnt figure out how to make them work across long areas. Seems like it would work alot better than those wick centering thingy's which I can't get to work very well or tying them around bamboo skewers. Gonna have to try this
ladysj
Dont mean to break the thread but I forgot to ask you what size/type of wicks are you using for those jars? This wicking thing is driving me nuts:confused:
Crafty1_AJ
Wick type would be determined by what kind of wax you are using. You could start your testing with maybe a 51C for soy/veg wax, or a 51z for paraffin? Without knowing your wax specific wax type, this is just a general shot / educated guess. But I hope that helps. Bev
I use a similar method to Crafty1_AJ with my 8 oz. jelly jars. However, I put my wick through the center hole of the spring on my clothespins, then bend it over and pinch it in place. Works like a charm and keeps those wicks perfectly centered until they set up. HTH.
