jwahlton
Do you mean for CP? I do 100% coconut oil
mountainmadness
Yes- for CP. Sorry that I forgot to mention that....
jwahlton
You want the majority of it to be coconut oil, at least 50% but more would be better. Then you can use other oils of your choice. But I've done them at 100% coconut oil
mountainmadness
Thank you! I will try it.
lindsaycb
I'm curious why a scrub bar has to have high percentage of coconut? I usually stick with my standard olive/palm/coconut recipe and add my scrubbies to the soap. Poppy seeds, pumice, cornmeal, etc.Or are we referring to salt bars? Rebecca_IA
Yep, solid salt scrub bars, not other scrubbies. With the high percentage of salt added, you need to up the coconut to at least 50%.
lbtddr
would you make them like regular cp soap.in the soap calculator ware would the salt go.or do you just make like normal and add salt with high coconut oil.or do you need extra lye or water. Rebecca_IA
No extra lye or water is needed for this type of soap, this kind of bar is made exactly like a regular bar of CP with the exception of adding salt and using a high percentage of CO.The salt doesn't need to go anywhere in the lye calculator.Formulate a recipe using at least 50% coconut oils. I add my salt at very thin trace, probably couldn't even consider it trace, stir the oil/lye by hand for a minute or two and then start stirring in the salt.HTH. RobinInOR
You need the high % of coconut oil because that is one of the only oils that lather well in salt water.
lindsaycb
My experience though with the CP salt bars is that they're not scrubby though. Could it become scrubby if we went with dead sea salt vs table salt?I've only done a few batches of the salt soap.
sawyer's moon
I've done a 100% monoi salt bar that is loverly .Salt bars are not "supposed" to be scrubby (except for possibly the first use). Some people say they feel like washing with polished stone...I find that to be an accurate description.Jen
Grannyscandles
I want to try this. How much salt would you add to a 3 pound batch?

Sorry that in my first post in this thread says "solid salt scrub bars", I didn't mean to lead anyone astray. The high content of the salt makes causes them to be very softening on the skin, and they do clean the hands better than a regular bar of soap when you use it to rub on the dirty spots, but it's not scrubby like it would be if you added pumice to the batch. lindsaycb
I'd love to have them a little scrubby.I believe you do equal amounts of salt to oil, correct? So 2lbs of oil...insert 2lbs of salt?
