the_amber_woods
What are "Proper Lotion Making Temps?"What is the best way to get your water phase to said temps and "hold" for the proper time?I'm going to make OOH Cream, for those of you who know what that is. The recipe calls for Honey, do you think regular honey or liquid honey would be better?
RobinInOR
Regular honey works fine in that recipe. Heat and hold is to 180F I think, for 20 minutes. I just put the water/honey and other water phase ingredients in a large pyrex measuring bowl in the microwave until it just about boils, then stick it in a warm 200F oven for 20 minutes. The oils i heat to about the same temperature - it will emulsify easier if the temperatures are similar. gerrie
When I made a small batch (14 oz water) I heated my water to 175 in the microwave, then covered it and left it. It actually held it's temp for the 20 minutes.

the_amber_woods
Lotion turned out pretty good. I used Extra Virgin Olive Oil, as it was what I had around. The resulting lotion is nice and creamy and feels wonderful, however my lotion smells strongly of olive oil... I'm hoping that using a Lighter Olive Oil will fix this problem. I might also try subbing out some of the olive for another oil or two and see how much that changes the recipie.
Grumpy Girl
Sorry to dig this up, but can someone point me to bandi's OOH recipe or PM me with it? I've scoured the dish and can't seem to find it.
xsami3000x
Grumpy I pm'd you the recipe. When I made my one and only (so far) lotion, this is what I did.Measured about 16 ozs water into a pot and set it to medium heat.Measure other ingredients (about this time water came to a simmer)Heated other ingred. slowly over double boiler, probably 20 minutes, didn't want to go too fast.Measured out the 12 oz water I needed and blended.Sami
