WW86
Hello, looking for some advice please. I have just attempted to make some wax melts but they keep coming out with this white around the edges and on top and like a swirl pattern on the back. I’m using 100% soy wax. Melting at 80, adding fragrance at around 70 and pouring at 65. I’m only adding 5% fragrance too and you can see the ‘swirl’ start happening a couple of mins after pouring. any advice please? I’ve tried 5 batches now and the same happens.... https://ibb.co/9hGwxMm https://ibb.co/k38sdsZ thanks in advance
TallTayl
Hello and welcome. that is classic frost. Soy Is polymorphic, which basically means that grains form unpredictably dependent upon many variables, such as temperature, rate of heating, rate of cooling, humidity, etc. frost is why many choose additives such as paraffin to smooth the appearance temporarily. over time soy will also dry out, looking flaky or sandy. here is a sample of 464 poured into a plastic oval cup about 6 weeks ago. It was absolutely flawless for a couple of weeks, and then appearance got shot to heck. The drying started around the edges and is creeping inward.
