Monica
Kinda sounds like a hard bar to rub in. I would use a butter(shea, cocoa) in place of the coconut oil.JMHO..I have never made this barHere is a good recipe2 oz beeswax 1 oz almond oil 1 oz cocoa butter Fragrance (by the drop, until it is the scent you want)Melt the beeswax and cocoa butter in a glass container in the microwave, or a clean pot on the stove. When it is completely melted remove from heat and add the almond oil. Then add your fragrance and/or coloring.Makes 4 1oz lotion bar tubes
cryptic
Do lotion bars need a preservative? What exactly does a lotion bar look like? Is it like soap?
donna4909
No preservative needed.A lotion bar looks kinda like a giant lip balm.
scentlady
what oil could be substitued for almond oil. I know people who are so allergic to nuts that if they had almond on their fingers and then touched their lips they'd have a reaction. heirloomoriginals
Would AKO work in place of the almond oil?Steph
edensong
Would AKO work in place of the almond oil?StephI'm sure it would. That first recipe looks like Taurus' recipe from the Whisk. She's in South Africa, so I don't think she uses FCO. I'm guessing it's virgin coconut oil.
RobinInOR
Actually, I'd assume the coconut would be the 76, you'd want the solidness of it. FCO is a liquid like almond oil and would make too soft of a bar.
edensong
Robin, I have certified organic virgin coconut oil (from Soaper's Choice) that is solid at room temp. I've never used coconut oil 76. Are they similar in consistency?
hawaiiansun
I was told that all parts should be equal (beeswax, butter, oils) so that's what i do I use 1oz beeswax .5 oz shea butter .5 oz kokum butter 1oz SAO or a light oil fo to preference goes on great not sticky or hard you can substitute the oils or butter but I found coconut oil or cocoa butter to be hard and shea by itself too greasy. elle110
I would definitely sub a butter for the coconut oil and you can use just about any carrier oil in place of SAO. You can also make the bars in disc for and package tins or the like for something different than the tubes :smiley2:
cmspath
stupid question - but I have to ask: Does this make 1 bar so I would have to multiply it by how many bars I wanted? edensong
stupid question - but I have to ask: Does this make 1 bar so I would have to multiply it by how many bars I wanted? The formula you're referencing makes 3 oz. It depends on your containers. Lots of folks use the 1 oz pushup containers, so it would make 3 of those.
