Landa
Who makes a good one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? Also how much soap in pounds does the brambleberry mold hold?thanks in advance
siberia
Hey Landa. I have the Brambleberry 18 bar slab mold. The volume of that mold is 117 fl oz. Most of what I consider to be decent/long lasting slab molds are rather pricey. My experience with both Upland and BB slabs have convinced me that sometimes you do indeed get what you pay for. They are both great molds.
lindsaycb
I just bought one off ebay for $50 (shipping is in that cost) It does 18 bars and comes with this honkin' blade that spans the entire slab. We'll see how it works. The sides are poly, so all I need to do is lay down some freezer paper and good to go.
Guest EMercier
OR, if you are handy with a hammer, you can make your own. That's what I plan on doing. I should make them and start selling them here! I'm always in Home Depot or Lowes. You can have them cut it to your specifications or I know at Lowes they have precut pieces. All you do it put some wood glue to hold it together and hammer. There you go, less than maybe $15 or so. Might be a bit cheaper. And look, no shipping! jwahlton
Yup, I second making your own. And I still use this box I found a couple of years ago that makes a great slab mold. And best of all it was FREE!
jwahlton
Also, I don't like "buying" molds (we make our own) but I did buy a Kelsei slab mold with my birthday money. Those are nice molds and they have the dividers.
sudsnwicks
This site gives instructions on how to build your own mold:http://www.crabapplesoap.com/woodcraft.htmlETA: Oops, this is for a log mold, but maybe it's possible to adapt the dimensions to get what you want? Landa
I suck at cutting so I need one with dividers LOL!
Guest EMercier
Only thing about that is, I don't want to have a 3# mold right now. I've been looking for a 1# mold instructions. I've come across those instructions before. Also, I saw a little cutter that was picture hanger wire between two boards and a bottom one and you set the height to how thick you would like the bars and run the log through it. Just an idea.
Scent Cellar
Your measurements have to be pretty accurate to make a 1# batch of soap. The smallest size batch I recommend is a 2 # batch.
Grumpy Girl
I bought myself a kelsei 9 bar mold and I love it. It's high, but the workmanship is excellent and I think it will last for a very long time.
