ladybug1
Can someone tell me when melting butters and oils, what the flash point is, so I will not kill the nutrients in the oils and butters?
Jcandleattic
you would ruin the properties of butters and oils long before hitting a flash point. Flash point is the lowest possible temp that an oil will spontaneously combust when introduced to a spark, and really has nothing to do with melting them. (and is more commonly used and needed to know for shipping purposes in case they would be shipped airborne) Here is a chart that will probably help answer your question better than I can. However, this is for cooking - but it will give you the smoke point (no flash point associated with them, but that would be higher even still) http://jonbarron.org/diet-and-nutrition/healthiest-cooking-oil-chart-smoke-points#.VQWSz47F9ic Edited March 15, 2015 by Jcandleattic
