mystic sowles
I have searched the forum archives to see if this question was posted prior but I can't find one. So I apologize if it has and I missed it. I live in up state NY and when the air temps outside fell below 60's I started having problemw with small holes forming on the tops of my palm wax candles. I keep the house temp's around 70 but still the holes form. Does anyone know if it's the air temp not being warm enough that is causing this? I have tried tapping the side of the mold to remove any air pockets that may have formed, plus I have tilted the molds while pouring. I always make sure the molds are warmed prior to pouring. The pour temps are correct, the molds are clean-no debris or particles. My thoughts continue to go to the air temps. If that's the case, what can I do to prevent this from happening-other then only pour palm wax in the summer?
pcbrook
I am no expert on pillars (only made two in my life) but maybe you need to wreck the tops.
mystic sowles
Hmmm, my post back to you on this never hit. What do you mean by wreck the tops?
pcbrook
I did a search and there are some threads you might be interested in that explains it. Actually I stopped wrecking them and just flip them. That is also explained in these threads. But it would be hard to flip pillar molds. Hope this helps! http://www.craftserver.com/topic/100694-feeling-lost-with-palm-wax/?hl=%2Bwrecking+%2Btops+%2Bpalm#entry948187 http://www.craftserver.com/topic/94276-palm-wax-information-check/?hl=%2Bwrecking+%2Btops+%2Bpalm http://www.craftserver.com/topic/86692-glass-glow-palm-pouring/?hl=%2Bwrecking+%2Btops+%2Bpalm#entry831450 http://www.craftserver.com/topic/84119-is-glass-glow-a-one-pour-wax/?hl=%2Bwrecking+%2Btops+%2Bpalm#entry787879 Edited March 19, 2014 by pcbrook
mystic sowles
I have tried some of these tips, what's odd is it still occurs after the repour. I will have to try tipping them upside down.
