Zelda
Hi All!I had an insurance question. My husband and I are both artists and have a business together for the past 8 years which is a corporation. After a year (or more) of massive testing, we finally launched our candle line. I did purchase additional insurance from Brower, which just ran out. Before i renew it, i was wondering if anyone knew if being a corporation would mean we have insurance already, i do know that a corporation does offer some protection against lawsuits, i'm just not sure if it's enough? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm clueless with all things like this, i just hate to pay for something i already have. (and no, my accountant didn't seem to know the answer???)Many thanks! TallTayl
Nothing will protect you against potential law suits being filed. Anyone can file against you at any time, for any reason. What you need at a bare minimum is product liability insurance for your candle line. If all corporations were immediately protected against lawsuits there would be no insurance companies as every business would be immune. Not sure if Brower covers candles (never checked) but they do have annual sales limits, so if you're selling above their limits already, it is time to look for more. Both Indie Beauty Network and the Handmade Soap and Cosmetics Guild provide various combined insurance for crafters that includes candles without the annual sales limits of Brower.
