Great idea! I have a similar idea, but I was going to make a handle with it to slide it open or closed
-
Oh thanks for the ideas!! Some of the stuff put on their look real. I looked up how to make wax sprinkles with steerin. I might try that!

So I am looking into making smelly jellies. My customers are asking for lids that are adjustable so they control the level of fragrance that come out. Like a top you would adjust from a salt/pepper shaker. I have not seen these. Do they exist?

Was it this past weekend? In Franklin PA? And no, I'm NOT trying to say "Messy Tarts - I remember YOU!!!" ;-) Just wondered if anyone from the board was there - haven't read anything.
It was in Bedford, PA

I'm looking into playing around and attempting cupcake looking wax tarts. What is safe to top them with?
I was thinking sprinkles, glitter, cookie crumbs? Would these be safe/messy in the warmer?

I post on here on and off and mostly lurk. A few months ago I mentioned that my town does a 2 weekend craft festival and its HUGE. I live right off from it, so I got a yard sale permit and set up a table.
So far I only make wax melts. I have been practicing for almost a year and feel I got it down (except pouring neatly lol working on it). I learned so much during the festival and hope to improve.
But sales were slow - but I broke even. So not too bad!
I found a key to sales was free samples. I gave out free samples and some people returned to buy. My next adventure is a fundraiser on Nov. 3rd. Once I get more funds and sales I'm hoping to start making wickless candles. I'm going to work on a nicer label, I had a business label with the basics on it. Hey, you have to start somewhere!!
For all you beginners out there - if you dream it and want it, it can happen. But make sure you test test test.

Do you scent them?

Oh I love this!!! I'm going to have to shop very very soon. I did my first craft festival and was semi-embarrased that the wax was a bit messy around the clamshell.
You simply use the pour pot to make the 3-4 pound batch and then pour smaller amounts into this lovely little 12 ounce (also comes in 20 ounce) milk steamer pitcher ( I buy mine from amazon) and then you have the precision pouring you need while the big batch stays on warm.
It works great for tea lights too!!

For those that do a full sheet, do you use a template to keep your sizes even? If so, do you mind sharing? I just need a fill-in-the-blank template.
-
I print mine on full sheet labels and cut them out myself with a scrapbook paper trimmer.
Awesome Idea! I bet that saves a lot of money! Where do you get them? Staples, Office Depot, or online?

Thanks Blacktie - always helpful.
I have been pouring large batches lately.

Go to WalMart and buy an $8.00 coffee caraffe. The glass kind that is a replacement for Mr Coffee or Blk & Decker, etc. We have been using glass coffee pots for over 4 yrs & have probably poured 10,000 tarts. When you are through, turn it over on newspaper in a 180 degree oven and then wipe it out. Works GREAT!But now my question is, do you pour melted wax in this glass or melt the wax in the glass lol -
Sorry for any errors, my keyboard is dieing.
How do you pour clamshells neatly? I can do it if I fill my pour pot (holds 4lbs) only to two, but over that it drips and makes a total mess all over my clamshells and counters.
A cheap alternative would be ideal for now. Thanks!!

Where can I buy blank labels that fit on clamshells? I get mine from candlescience. Right now I have ghetto address labels, so I want to make it professional

How about car air fresheners like the Renuzit sticks that clip onto the vent. They look like a closepin. I wanted to make something like that.
-
I would not offer refresher oils for tarts or wickless candles myself. As stated above, wax only holds so much and I know personally I push mine. I would be worried about fire and then getting sued.

I need a good christmas scent that throws well in soy! Doing a November fair ontop of my October and my Nov theme is Christmas.
I love candlescience but willing to try out some others
-
Does anyone rename their Pumpkin Souffle? That name just don't do much for me but I'm soooo not good at the renaming game! Any thoughts? TIA
I was thinking of renaming that one to Pumpkin Pie. I read that the souffle was better than the pie scent and what I wanted was a pumpkin pie scent. If that makes any sense.
Thanks everyone for the help!!

I'm participating in a craft festival in October and wanted to see if anyone has tried and liked these scents from Candlescience.
Cinnamon Stick
Lavender
Macintosh Apple
Pumpkin Souffle
I use Ecosoya PB and wanted to see if anyone (in soy) had success with HT. Just need to see if it's worth buying samples to test those out.
If anyone was ever thinking of trying their Chocolate Chip Cookie I have rave reviews for that and my testers kid took a bite out of it too. Btw, didn't taste good lol
-
Testing is vital in my opinion. I would be embarrassed if my stuff sucked and sold it like it was awesome stuff lol
Scoping out competitions and this board as been essential in learning.
Though I'm boggled at some wax melts I saw at our country store and they were called "Super Scented". They did smell good in their package, buy wonder how much FO is super scented. (looked like soy)
-
I hate scentsy! When the scent fades, which isn't a long time till that happens, it smells like burnt plastic to me. I tried a candle company local to me and they used soy and my melts lasted forever.
So I use soy only! For fragrance oils I use Candlescience, but going to try Peaks soon. I'm so clumsy myself, but this seems to be my niche. Good luck and have fun!
-
Good. I don't know why I am double guessing myself. I have about 6 months until my business launch date and I have great reviews from my testers. I need to stop the doubting.
-
I thought of this last night. Where do you put a safety/warning label on a wickless candle jar? I wouldn't think the bottom since you put the jar on a burner. Maybe the bottom side of the lid? Anyone know?
-
I was looking at the description of EcoSoya PB wax that I use for my wax melts and it stated max was 6% for fragrance load. I put in much more and haven't had a problem. Is this just a guideline?
Loyalty issues

I feel like I'm the only one who has fragrance loyalty issues. I think it's because I tried FO's from one supplier in the beginning and it was awful. So I've been scared to move away from my one supplier I love. (candlescience mmm). I know I have to especially going into business.
Does anyone have that issue? I usually see the opposite effect. But I just recently bought from NG. I've been eyeballing them for about a year. I'm excited to try Hippy Christmas!
