  1. My wife and I lived in North East (Cecil County) for years, but we moved to near Lexington Park (Saint Mary's County) on the Western Shore a little over 25 years ago. Our families are still in Cecil County and we travel there as much as possible.

I was born and raised in PA, (Chadds Ford in Delaware County) but my mother's folks are Marylanders. (Elk Neck/North East to be precise.) I've spent much of my life in this state. I lived in Dover, Delaware for awhile too. I know your area pretty well. I used to sell every weekend for about four years at Bargain Bill's Flea Market near Seaford, DE. My guess is that you've been there too.

    Dave

Ive heard of the flea market but never got a chance to sell there. With working so many hour at my full time job i didnt have time for hardly anything but I did some local little events that were yearly. Maybe now since I am not working I will have time to sell there

  2. You're forgiven fellow Marylander! Do I "know" you from another board? The name is familiar.

Dave (Trying to find my feminine side)

Maybe from a halloween board? I haven't been on any candle/soap ones in years and honestly I think this was the only one.

I live on the Eastern Shore of MD...about a hr from OC MD...what part of MD are you from??

  3. Filmore container.com is a good place for the clam shell packages as well. CandleScience and Candlewic are the best bets for lower cost shipping. CandleScience is so fast!!

Browse through the fragrance discussions with a notebook (what I do) and prepare to send away for samples!! Picking fragrances is some of the most fun, and some of the most irritating part of this hobby. I can easily lose 5 hours on the Nature's Garden fragrance list.!!

Thank you!! I actually was looking at scent list last night from a few diff sites. Got on the computer at 9pm and before I knew it...it was after midnite!!!

I wish I remembered all the sites I used before...I havent made a candles since 2008 or 2009

  4. Ladies???

There are people with Y chromosomes here too

    Questions for you.

    1. where is the best place to buy soy wax for tarts/melts? (where shipping costs are the least or if you can pick up), you are in MD so try Candle Science

    2. where is the best place to buy scents? Same place

    3. Any idea who sells the cheapest resealable plastic 6pk plastic melt containers?? Same place

lol...guess I should have said fellow candlemakers!! I think my last post here was in 2008 and I dont believe we had guy members then or if so I never knew it. SORRY!!! & Thank you!!

  5. I haven't been on here or made candles in YEARS!!

After FINALLY buying into scentey melts..all my friends on facebook talks about them all the time i bought some. I was VERY unhappy so I am restarting everything again. I think just the scented melts though...dont feel like the wick test again since its been so long and I am sure everything has changed.

    Questions for you.

    1. where is the best place to buy soy wax for tarts/melts?

    2. where is the best place to buy scents?

    3. Any idea who sells the cheapest resealable plastic 6pk plastic melt containers??

  6. If your customer is like one of mine...its because she doesnt want her customers to order straight from you.

I was selling candles not far from my house on consignment and I had no idea the labels were being ripped off until I went in one day to pick up left overs and drop off new ones...only good thing is the warning labels were still on...for piece of mind...maybe just use straight warning labels without your name...that way you'll at least feel good with no worries and if she does take those off them if there is any ever problems due to not have a warning label on them its her fault not yours....when I do a wholesale accounts I now have that on the contract...that warning labels MUST be left on....and I give an option of color...white, clear or brown kraft....I figure that way it covers me ialittle more anyways

  7. I emailed "Enchanted Lites" http://www.enchanted-lites.com/6a.htm

yesterday just to see how many oz 25-30 cups would be....just wanted to see...I got a reply back today and this is what it says:

"Thank you for your inquiry. An 8 ounce cup will hold approximately 6-7ounces of Scented Soy Drops. So you will need about 11-13 pounds of drops"

and they offered to give me a deal at $4.25 a pound....boy thats alot of pouring....13 pounds of those dots...lol.....but hey...it seems kinda easy...so I think I might try it this summer....I will be off work more and have time to play around with new things!!

  8. I was thinking after I posted last night and logged off...I would actually have to do some testing...I would 1st off want to be able to tell customers how many they could use in a melter if they are using them as melts and then if they are using them for candles to see how they are with a wick....I would almost have to include a wick and a container to be safe...or just make the candle myself...hmm..yeah to much work for me...lol...it is something to work on this summer though.

  9. Are you going to buy the molds, do the testing using your wax, dye, FO, etc for this one customer? Sheesh.

I wouldn't even consider it unless its something I had been planning on and had already mastered the technique for and have a known market for it. JMO

You said it!!! But actually...other then buying the mold or molds...I wouldnt think I would have to test again...its wax melts just in a smaller form. I honestly would use the same wax I always do for tarts, add FO, dye...etc...just like I do for my reg size melts but just pour them in a smaller mold....but yeah I know what you mean and no...I dont think I would master the technique unless I did know what the market was for that type of melts...seems to much pouring for me...lol....just think how many of those little suckers it would take to make a pound!!!

  10. Thank guys!!!

Yeah...its a bit to much I do believe....I am to nice I am told at times and bend over backwards to give a customer what they want but to make matters worst...she needs these NOW...like yesterday and I just can't with the crazy hours I have been working at my FT job...well suppose to be PT but has never been PT since I started a year ago...lol...and I dont know about you guys...but it seems the week I have to much going on...is the week I get orders like crazy.

Thanks again for all the links...I will pass on all the links to her and I'm sure she will find what she wants.

OH..BTW...she sent me a pic...I havent hosted it or what ever its called...to tired to think here...so I cant put it on here...but its name is "candle kit" and it was a small pic so I made it bigger and "Mark" was on the container...I searched and found it on line

    http://shop.meetmark.com/shop/product.asp?pf_id=32637&from=search&find_spec=candle&camp=200806&dir_delivery=1&rep_delivery=1

She said she was doing a event so I'm guessing she wants to make candles with them...she said not to worry about packaging...she was going to do that.

  11. I was contacted my someone interested in buying "25 - 30 cups of lavender scented wax melts"...anyone know how to make these? There has to be some type of mold out there...but all I have are choc chips or jelly beans that are even close to that size.

    Also..how would you price these....per cup....per pound??
