  1. Thank you everyone for your suggestions. The Elemental jar, the tarts...I'm definitely going to try those methods out. It's heartbreaking to waste wax on a scent that does not throw well and that will be just scooped out and thrown away. Thank you!!
  2. Hi Chefmom...thank you for your feedback. I continue to test several times in the large 10 oz. I also do a power burn to see what would happen if someone were to leave that fragranced candle on forever. My question is before getting to that point of testing in the 10oz is there a way to filter a fragrance that will not be pleasant or throw well. For example...I tested a fragrance I loved called Asian Pear and Lily and after the second burn still no throw. I wondered if there was a way to test it to make sure that it throws in my wax before pouring in my containers to trully test the full burn.
  3. I am testing a large number of fragrances for the fall/winter season. I am using 10 oz Country Comfort Jars and am trying to figure out a way after choosing the scent to be able to test the throw (see if I like it and throws well in my soy) before doing full test burns in the actual 10 oz jar. Does anyone have a technique? My thoughts were to maybe use the 4 oz jelly jar with the various fragrance oils and burning in my bathroom..lol. Thanks everyone!
  4. For me the C3 is the dominant wax because of the tops after burning. I know some people don't mind it but me as a customer...I think it would bother me to look in the glass after a candle has burned and see craters! I would cringe! So I switched it. The scent throw is still great and the candle looks good! Now with soy you don't have a perfect candle, but it's a bit more appealing to me without sacrificing the throw. Good luck and let us know what you find!
  5. Hi Everyone, I was wondering if those of you selling your candles can help with this question. I am a home-based business. I know the logo, name, scent and net wt are requirements. My concern is location: is that fulfilled with a website address? My physical address is my home and it feels odd putting that on a label. Is there anything else that I am missing?
  6. I have also experimented with 464 but decided on a combination of 415 and C3. The scent throw is better for me and I get smooth tops after burning every time.
  7. Thank goodness someone has the same experience! I'm not crazy. I'm still burning the CD22 in comparison to double wicked CD5s and CD6s and boy the flame is huge. Again melt pool is lacking! But the CD5s and CD6s are sweet and low and doing their little job! The scent throw is great too. Thanks for the feedback and advice Rjdaines.
  8. Thanks Kandleindulgence, I'll have to dig up my old Eco wicks and try with those. Just for additional info I recently tried the CD22 wick alone to see if maybe that single wick is enough for this jar and first the wick was a torch! So big and did leave hangup even halfway down the jar and mushroomed like crazy. Keep coming back to the double wicks for some reason.
  9. Hi everyone! I have searched and searched and cannot seem to find too many posts regarding the 8 oz Country Comfort Jar and wicking. I use a blend of C3 and GB415 with 3% beeswax. I use 9% FO. I am currently testing the 8 oz Country Comfort Jar from Fillmore. I have tried to single wick this jar and resulted with uneven burns, mushrooms, hangups, etc. So I decided to double wick this jar. I'm a little concerned and think that maybe I may not be getting accurate results. Some people have recommended double wicking with 2 CD12s for this jar. What I have found is that 2 CD6s are working well but the jar gets HOT. So how can anyone use 2 CD12s? I know wax formulations are different etc but that has me wondering. With the two CD6s the sides are burning clean and the wicks have little to no mushrooming and are trimming down as they burn very well. But the glass is super hot. I tried 2 CD5s and found that many times I would be left with hangup of wax on one side. I'm thinking about when I test the 16 oz comfort jar...it's going to be a hot nightmare! Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
  10. Thank you for all your help everyone! Ok so I may just accept it. It's not so bad looking but just looks different. My husband thinks it's cool too but I was concerned. Oh well...it does smell fantastic!
  11. Yes. So just the portion that has melted for that burn. Just the top portion that has melted and created the melt pool. The rest of the candle is white. Could I have over wicked? I'm thinking that or just that Lilac FO's have some chemical that causes the color change. It almost looks dirty. Have not experienced this with any other fragrance.
  12. Hi everyone, I feel like everytime I overcome one hurdle I get presented with another. I have so far tried 2 lilac fragrance oils that smell like true lilacs. The odd thing is that they both have been tested and turn my wax an ashy blue. Just the melt pool once it's hardened again. The two are from Rustic Escentuals. Hungarian Lilac and now Fresh Lilac. Has anyone found this? I use GB 415 with %BW.
  13. Thanks Holly for your quick response! I thought I was going crazy!
  14. Hi everyone. I have been making candles with GB 415/beeswax in the 8 oz crisa jar. Depending on the fragrance I wick with a CD10, CDN10, or CD12. The candles burn well and the throw is great after about 2 hours or so. (when achieve full melt pool). I experimented with an Anchor Country Comfort Jar in 16 oz - Double wicked with CD5's. WOW...the throw blew me away in over 30 min. Not overwhelming but you definitely got a great scent throw at that time. On inspection...full melt pool had not yet been achieved of course since it was only 30 min or so. But the difference in throw has me a little surprised? I know that the diameter in the Crisa Jar is smaller (2.75") versus the Comfort Jar which is over 3 inches but the Comfort jar had just started burning. So my question is...have people found double wicking to affect scent throw? I'm flabbergasted!
  15. Gosh I feel your pain. They are all pretty in their own way, but I'd have to say that the first 2 are the nicest. The last one...the 4 oz jelly is cute for samples or to sell as travel candles. That's what I'm thinking of doing as well with the 4 oz. For me the container I love best would be the one I can get a great consistent safe burn. I'm still starting out too!
  16. To clarify...I have and orange/vanilla and a Nectarine fo that for some reason CD10 left lots of hangup....then I tried CD12 and way too hot. Then I tried the CDN8 and that was perfect. Didn't even have to go to CDN10. I'm not sure why this is but it seems that it might be due to the fact that the CDNs are treated differently and it handles these stronger fragrances better? It's odd ...but I will be retesting again to make sure this is so.
  17. Just an update. I've finally tested with CDN wicks. What I have found was that certain fo's need the CDN wick. So far I have 3 candle fragrances that need the CDN and that has worked out. So if CD 10 and CD12 did not produce a full melt pool and lots of hangup even by 3rd burn...I tested with CDN8 and CDN10 and those burned better! Anyway, just my findings.
  18. At this time I make strictly Soy/beeswax candles. I am a little overwhelmed with all the different companies that offer product liability. I did some research on the IndieBeauty insurance but I don't know if it's a good insurance that they offer. Can anyone share the insurance they use? Again I am looking for strictly candle making. I make them at home and would sell online and at local crafts/farmer's markets/shops. Thank you! Also I am in Florida.
  19. I have to try the Nag Champa fo from CS. Now my husband is skeptical..."would people want a candle that smells like church?". Hmmm. Well I like it!
  20. This is so interesting. I would have never thought to try the CD 14. So odd...I thought it was a typo on the guide. Well I'm trying the CD 14. Placed my order for CDNs and they should arrive today to test those too. I feel like a mad scientist! It seems like alot of people love the CDNs. Do they bend as much as the CDs? Just curious since I know that they are pretreated a little differently.
  21. Hi everyone...I have been testing a combination of GB 415 and C3 with various fragrance oils. I'm finding that in my Universal Tumbler aka Crisa Jar with a diameter of 2.75 that my CD10s work well but there are fragrances that leave hangup even after 3rd burn. CD12s seem too hot. When I use a CD12 on those fragrances I achieve full meltpool within 1-2 hours in the first burn which I think is too hot...yikes! I test the wicks in 3 hour intervals..meaning I've been burning them for 3 hours at a time to test. Is there a wick that would fit into this slot...of being hotter than a CD10 but not as hot as CD12?? Thank you!!
  22. Thank you everyone for your advice. I am still on the search but have ordered several oils from 'victorie' to try out! Thanks!
  23. I have been making soy candles for myself and my family for over a year. But I am stumped right now with trying to find a fragrance oil (for soy GB415) that smells like church incense. I have searched the forums and people have suggested Frankincense and Myrrh etc. Unfortunately, I have ordered about 8 different Frank..and Myrrh and it's definitely NOT what I'm looking for. Also tried Essence of Bethlehem and Essence of Jesus. Nope..not it. The smell is the incense the priests distribute during holy days like Christmas...Good Friday etc. Does anyone know what I am talking about or where I could find it?? Thank you!!! msant
