  1. Hi ChappyK,

I just began 3 months ago. I read & test, read & test. I don't think I'll be ready to sell for at least another 7 months the way this is going. but I love it! I was also looking for something & realized I could actually try to make a stronger scented candle then the ones I was buying. I started searching for a name & realized my maiden name meant candle maker. So that part was easy! Read & test everyday if you can, but I am also looking at websites, labels, selling avenues, etc. at the same time. Gotta have something to do while staring at the darn wicks that won't burn correctly! LOL. I use IGI 4627 wax & lots & lots of different wicks.

  2. Thanks Stella, I'll take a look around. Yes, soap oils. I'm starting a spreadsheet (self-taught so not so good) & comparing all the suppliers oils & such that I can find. The shipping is definately different with a lot of the companies. The different prices on the oils is vast also. I'm wondering if it's the quality that makes such a difference?

OceanGazer I don't know if they carry jars, I was changing thoughts mid sentence I'm sure. I was figuring out if the status jars from Dollar Tree were the best buy since I can pick-up. They are! The lids are .48 from www.glasssupplydepot.com & shipping to St. Pete. is only $35

  3. I'm moving to the Tampa/St. Pete. area later this year. In your opinion is there still a market in the surrounding areas for candles & soap. ( If thats not too personal to ask.) TIA!

That is a really great idea Stella! How are you always so awesome?!

re: overall market, well that has changed. I am in Northern Indiana now in Amish Country and I despise the rustic stuff though I know many love it. I CAME from Tampa - in the Westchase area where Spa/Elegant was/is the look I had/have.

Having trouble finding a middle ground! At the end of the day, I want to reflect me but appeal to the area. Oh and SELL !!! :)

  4. Thank-you even though the pm offer is for another! I'll be looking you up.

Do your basic research, learn about polarity and fragrance oils etc. Then it really depends on your talent and your patience. If you really think your candle out and then go slowly you can create a fairly decent candle relatively quickly.

My advice is do not use anything that will burn ... so no plastic, no food... shells can also burn. They will soak up the gel ... so if you use shells make sure you crimp your wick above them.

I have made gel candles for over 10 years and still sell them. Used to moderate a gel candle forum and am happy to help you. Just PM me if you'd like some help without sarcasm or a "whose is bigger" contest.

  5. Thats sounds wonderful. Beautiful candle! Makes me want to try, "once I have the right wick & FO% combo down" maybe in a year or two? LOL

Nice looking candle. For those of you that actually like the smell of Patchouli....mix up an ounce of patchouli and raspberry together and see what you think of that scent.
