First off, when you make a pillar candle in a mold, the bottom of the mold IS the top of the candle.

I placed my first order from Peak which should arrive on tuesday. I ordered IGI 4630A container wax, 9 oz hex jars and the zinc core wick sample pack. Can anyone offer advice on a starting point on wick size for testing??

I have not tried that blend yet, although it is on my list, but maybe if you put it in the freezer for a few minutes and let it get cold before you take it out of the bags and then transfer it to a different container for later use?

I think it sort of gives it that rippled look of a scoop of ice cream. I think it's a perfect finish for this particular project!

I started playing around with wax dipped bears and my friends started buying them up like hotcakes! I decided to take the plunge and list one on ebay. Well, I got an order!!

Here is my question, I live in Arizona. It's hotter than hell here right now! My buyer lives in Texas, I'm assuming it's equally hot there. What measures should I take to ensure that the bear arrives to my buyer looking nice and not melted?? Signature confirmation so my buyer has to pick it up at the PO??

Ooh, good to know! I can get those for free all day long from work! One of the companies we order from sends those free of charge all the time and we don't use them very often.

I've been using 1 tablespoon per lb. I was able to pick up some vybar today at Hobby Lobby. I'm getting ready to place my first order from Peak's. I'm so excited!! LOL I've only been playing with votives from a kit I bought at Michael's I am literally not getting any HT at all! Even at 2 oz FO per lb of wax. Lots of mottling and weeping though. :-X

I've been using stearic because I can get it locally at Michael's. My ENTIRE CANDLE comes out mottled. It does look nice that way though. LOL In reading that guide by Bob Sherman. He gives instructions on how to make a mottled candle. I thought to myself "Well heck, I don't need any help in that area!"

What WILL prevent the mottling? I actually prefer that look on my votives & pillars, but I don't want it in my containers.

You could always get a laptop or cheap desktop and internet service for your shop. That way you can still jump on here. Just sayin...

Do you guys make clothes for them or just accessorize them? If you do make clothes, is it hard? I am not very good with a sewing machine, I can do the basic alter or hem, but patterns confuse me. Of course it's probably been 20 years since I even looked at one.

I think you're supposed to use the spigot to get the wax into a pour pot. I think it comes out of the spigot too fast to pour directly into your containers. I am just taking a wild guess here though, I really don't know.
