  1. I know exactly what you are talking about. They have that in a shop in the Spillikin Corners area at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Or they used to anyways. He doesn't need to buy raw wick spools, as he probably doesn't want to make his own tapers. He probably just wants to order the tapers already made and have the vats of different colored waxes. The customer then buys the tapers from him and just dips them in the different colored waxes to design the candles. The tapers are already made, they just color them.

My uncle used to take me to Six Flags at least twice a year when I was growing up. Every single time I made a set of tapers at Spillikin Corners. We also used to go and watch them make taffy.

  2. Same here except I use high temp silicone rubber gasket sealer. A tiny dab is all that's needed for a hold that doesn't let go, even at the bottom of the container plus it seals the wick so that it will not suck wax from underneath. Hot glue worked okay for me, but it will soften at high end-of-candle temps and allow the wick to keep on sucking, defeating the purpose of the self-extinguishing features of wicktabs.

I like my bow-ties because, with a few twists (which helps self-trimming wicks to burn in a circle rather than to one side), the wick is securely held under a little tension, not just taut as with a bar-type or popcicle stick holder. They also stay centered very well using this method. I don't double wick, so I have never used bowties for that purpose.

I tried the hot glue, when I poured the wax in, the glue softened and the wick detached from the bottom of the container.

Wait, so with the HTP wicks, if I twist them a few times they will not burn to one side like I am experiencing with my latest tester???

  3. I'm thinking maybe the Candles-N-Beyond.

If anyone who knows me goes there, they'll KNOW it's not me. They're a distributor for Gold Canyon candles. Not that I've heard of them, $18 for a 4x4 pillar, not in this lifetime! Maybe in some areas thats a reasonable price, but not for anyone in my income bracket  Ok, so I had to poke around there too....

    D

Gold Canyon Candles are quite popular out here in Arizona. Mostly because they are made here. I watched a spotlight on a news program or something a while back and if I remember correctly it started out as 2 women who made candles as a hobby, much like how everyone here started out. I run a Gold Canyon fundraiser every year for my cheer teams. They really are great candles and they pay out a nice profit to the girls. They put Yankee Candles to shame.

  4. I think with stuff like that people like to feel like they are getting 'special treatment' or something for being a loyal customer. It just generally makes them feel better to be able to call in their order. If giving them that warm fuzzy feeling is part of what keeps them coming back, I say let them call. LOL
