This recipe sounds fairly easy but I would also like to know about the lye and the water amounts. And maybe a dumb question but where do you actually buy lye?

So no one has any tips? I read somewhere that you can shine them with pantyhose....is this true? well i guess I can try it but boy that is alot of work to shine each one. But I will try it unless someone has a better idea.

Ok i have been looking at some of the pics in the gallery....I like the way my tarts turn out but some i seen on there is soooo shiney....mine looks good but not that shiney:cry2: am I doing something wrong, is there a secret i dont know about? Can anyone help me out please?

I have the regular tart molds but I really like the hearts better. I will post some better pics of the jars later. I have also tried my hands at some soaps (mp) I havent gotten brave enough for anything else....i will post them later as well.

Ok hopefully I will do this right. Here is a pic of my tarts, the way I have them set up at my shop (I own a beauty salon..so just a small shelf), the way I sell my starter kits and the little tart tray that comes with the starter kit. Sorry if the pics arent the best I am still new with the camera. The starter kit comes with 2 tarts. On the bottom shelf is some of my wickless jj.

When I make my wickless and tarts I always add just alittle more fo to them....I learned if you add to much you can see the oil in the jars. It really doesnt take much more though if any. Thats just my opinion though and I am new so hopefully others will pipe in to help.:smiley2:

Hi again,

Like I said in a prior post I have been making candles...but now am going to try my hand at bath stuff. I bought some soap from Hobby Lobby (I know its not the best stuff...dont yell:D I am just playing right now...lol) But my question is with candle wax I use one of the presto pots to melt the wax....If I decide to stay with soaps can something like that be used as well? With the first couple little soaps I made I just heated it up in the microwave....and right now I will probably just play with the melt and pour method.

Have you thought about some of the place that print labels for you? I seen one site when I was looking before...I think the name was PrintGlobe.com I cant remember the prices or anything but you can check them out. Or just try doing a search for labels maybe you can find someplace that will allow you to put what you want on them. HTH:smiley2:

Well I am still fairly new to candle making, but I love wickless:yay: . I have made containers and some votives but wickless is sooo easy. As to a prior post of mine I just started selling some at work and they have been going like hot cakes. I think its alot to do with the area you are in maybe?? And as far as the wax goes well you can either throw it out like most people do with the used jars or containers or I have even added a little more scent to the ones I keep burning at work and it does last longer(I only do this for me not in the ones I sell). But like I said I am still fairly new and this is just my opinion.

Fern sorry it took me so long to reply. The little trays I got were also from joanne's. I dont know if thats what they were meant for but....They are meant for candles. They are black metal and look kinda like a pan with a little swirly handle. I dont have any with me here but I will take a pic at work tomorrow if you would like. I paid like $1.00 for them and they were in the aisle with the candle warmers. Hope that helps some:)

First of all I want to say thanks to everyone who helped me out with all my questions.

I took some tarts, wickless jars and some starter kits (candle warmers, and tart burners) on wed. this week and sold all my starter kits....well I only had 6 but they are all gone and people are wanting more!!!! This is so cool. Joanne Fabrics had candle warmers on sale for $3.99 and they had cute little trays that were perfect for the tarts, so people can use the warmer for jars and tarts. I had to go back and get more this evening. This is great....I am having a good time making candles and have alittle extra money to boot:grin2:

Ok another question. I have scents that you can use on the body as well as candles and I have some molds, so other than that I just need some kind of base right? And I use color blocks for the candles can you use that or is there a special kind of color for soaps? I figure you need a different kind of color but I just figured I would ask. And are most bases just a melt and pour or do you need other stuff to put into it?

I have just recently started making candles (past 2-3 months) but now I see all the cool soaps everyone is making and would like to try that as well, shhhhh...dont tell the hubby;) . My question is this....has anyone tried the soap making kit that you can get at walmart? I thought maybe it might be something just to see if I may like it or not. I mean for the price, its only like $30.00 I didnt think it sounded bad. What do you think?

eugenia, what kind of tin? I like that idea because they can use it for tarts or jars which I am making both.

I know I am still fairly new to this but what I was told was to get one of those ceramic tiles (like at lowes) to put underneath them. I have one and it helps alot.

Thanks for the replies!! One more question...sorry:rolleyes2 if I order from one of the above places do I need some sort of ID # to get those wholesale?? Or can anyone order them? I am already hooked on buying scents and wax. I can get it locally at a small shop and they already know me by name now;)
