  1. Yeah, dual scent candles are pretty common and easy to do as long as the scents don't clash. I've seen quite a few of them and even made a handful. As to avoiding the scents conflicting... I'd say just check how the fragrances smell together before you mix them into the wax. Pretty simple, really. As for what would go specifically with bayberry, a couple months ago I made a dual scented candle with bayberry and (I'm pretty sure) sandalwood. I don't have my scents with me at the moment, though, so you'd want to double check that on your own. And it depends on what your "bayberry" scent is like- not all artificial bayberry scents are the same, or even similar.
  2. Perhaps this is an amateur thing, but I just use crayons for my dyes. Cheap and simple. I've never tried neon colors, though, so I suppose I couldn't say whether or not they're effective for bright hues.
  3. Yeah, like every hobby, there's a learning curve to candlemaking. Some things work, some things just fail. You mentioned that you're on a tight budget, and there are some interesting ways to stretch your wax farther. The best one that I've found is using a makeshift disposable mold (orange juice concentrate cans are my favorite) and make a pillar candle like normal, but then drop crushed ice and ice cubes into the wax immediately after pouring. Once the candle is fully cooled, and you empty out the water you'll have some fascinating designs in the wax and you'll have used a lot less of it than a normal candle.
  4. I just use an old butter knife on a cutting board. If the wax is really hard, I heat the knife over my gas stove before trying to cut the wax- just make sure to wrap a cloth or something around the handle first!
  5. I've been making candles for a few years now, but I've had to start looking into candle warmers because open flames aren't allowed in my dorm. I've seen a lot of brands mentioned here, but you also might try looking into safecandle.net. A guy next door to me has a candle warmer and his room always smells like the cranberry candle he uses. Better than BO, I guess.
