  1. As I mentioned in an earlier post...we used J50 for years prior to quitting the candlemaking business. Just started back up with soy.......having rough time after testing for over a year. However...going to still test a mix today. Anyway...thinking about going back to paraffin or a blend. As I browse the forum, I notice J223 alot. Then I notice on CS website they have an Astrolite J223...but here on the forum it looks as though J223/4633 is what is being discussed. I need reeducated on paraffin since so many have entered the market since we quit. Can someone clarify for me. These are two different companies...same wax?
  2. Wow....that is expensive. Man...I, like most candlemakers, miss the old wax prices. We used J50 at the time we quit making candles before. We lived in Ohio and Kings House Candle Supply(located in WV)would have sales on it. We would drive down there (from OH) and pick up 10-15 cases at a time plus all our jars (poor SUV) The cases would normally run something like $45.00/case. Would be on sale for $36.00 if I'm not mistaken. Anyway....I appreciate you giving me some insite into these three waxes. And I agree....with the cost of wax today...why add more than 1 oz/lb if you don't have too.
  3. Thanks Candybee...Appreciate your post letting me know that. I'm thrilled to have found this board. When we quit our business about five years ago...we weren't really into soy yet. So this has been soooo helpful. Still not completely sold on the waxes we have tested. But are continuing the testing process. We did do a bunch of research on GG and have a case....will begin testing that soon. Super J? Anything you'd share about that one would be so appreciated.
  4. I was just running down the list and reading everyone's answers to the questions. I noticed that some of the posts are kinda old. Because new waxes become available or change, I was just wondering...of those that originally posted, do any of you still use that same wax or have you changed? If you have changed, may I ask why and what wax you decided upon? Not completely sold on the two we currently have, and are always willing to try another brand. Thank you so much.
  5. I noticed the post is a couple of months old, but wanted to post anyway. We use that wax for our votives and we tested several wicks as well. We tested HTP 73's, CD5's and LX14's. All worked well for us...depended on the fragrance oil. CS's wick guide also recommends the LX 14
  6. Oops....maybe I should have put the above info regarding the sale in the other discussion area. Sorry...I'm new here :lipsrseal but wait...I don't think I can get into that area right now anyway right? Gotta be a member for 30 days? Sorry guys...just be patient with me.
  7. Some of you most likely already know this, but for those that don't, CS has a 1 ounce fragrance sale every Spring and Summer. You are allowed to order up to three per scent. Last year their Fall Sale was in September....not too far away. Hopefully it comes in the early part of September!! We take advantage of it every time it comes up.
  8. Thank you Candybee...I am using oils from CS that are recommended for soy...a couple oils were not from there. LX's did seem to perform pretty well. Not sold on this wax ...will see what happens after some more curing. But for me...I'm really leaning toward a blend or going back to paraffin. Miss the awesome throw and appearance of it! Thanks again.
  9. I let them cure for at least two days. Others three. Some are still curing. I used 1 oz fo/lb and they are fragrances that are suppose to be strong in soy. A few of the fos I have used in GW464 and they did pretty well...just don't like the way GW464 looks. In the CB Advanced, I have a wide variety of wicks on hand from testing 464. So I was able to test with LX, CD, ECO, SS AND HTP - and jar combinations - votive jars, jelly jars, status, tureen, mason, apothecary and tins. Most burned beautifully, nice flame, no dancing. The ones that did not do well was the ones that were 3.5"-4" jars which I tried with one wick...I always use two with GW464. So, I'll pour those again and use two, let cure for about a week and go from there. I will go ahead and put some away and see what happens after curing those a while too. Thanks for your input.
  10. Been testing with EcoSoya CB Advanced and I'm exhausted. The candles look amazing. But the throw is just not there. Been using a variety of jars and wick combinations. HOWEVER...I do have an issue and that is the rooms they are being tested in are large. Very large. It's an open floor plan with a loft and even the rooms with doors on them are large rooms as well. When I put them in smaller rooms...say bathrooms, they do pretty well. I can't test burn all the candles in my bathrooms...that would take forever. I'm just wondering if it's the size of the rooms or candle nose or it's just the wax. A couple of the candles I had to literally put my nose over them to smell them. Urrgghh!
  11. Absolutely beautiful site. Very professional looking. I noticed you only offer EO's. Have a question for you. Did you try fragrance oils and found them unacceptable or no scent throw in your particular soy wax or are you choosing them for the aromatherapy benefits? I've got a good amount of EO's here for bath and body/spa line, but wanted to steer away from using them in my soy. For one reason is the cost. And two, I wanted a greater variety in selections.
  12. Our experiences with candle making is almost dead on with yours. We aren't new to candlemaking either, (we also used J-50 with awesome scent throw...dang...I miss that!). We too tested GW464/Very Vanilla from CS/Ivory Dye and ECO wicks. With regard to air bubbles, we poked "relief" holes to allow the bubbles to come to the surface. That helped. But, I still hate the aweful look of GW464. No matter what we did...it just didn't help. We just poured quite a few batches of EcoSoya Advanced and put them next to the GW464 and the CB Adv almost look like paraffin. They are beautiful. Just wish the scent throw was stronger.
  13. Good Morning Everyone. I'm thrilled to have found this board. I've been reading alot!! We used to have a Candle and Bath business and did very well. The business was just growing too quickly and it was overwhelming, sometimes spending 12 hour days in the shop. I then sold everything. I quit before i really got into serious soy testing. (We used paraffin (J-50) for containers and also a paraffin pillar/votive wax). I decided to get back into candle and bath again with the help of our grown daughter. For the past year, we've been testing the different soy waxes, wicks, fragrances...you name it and have still not found that "kick butt candle" - at least on a consistent basis. We're using scents that are recommended for soy and currently have GW464 and have been testing that pretty extensively until we had issues with a batch in the spring. We decided to try out EcoSoya CB Advanced and are currently testing. Has anyone found either of these two waxes as "keepers"? And, has anyone tried to mix the two, and if so with what result? We're willing to try yet another brand, but being in the Southeast, we're getting pounded on shipping. CS is closest. If you had to choose a wax that you just won't part with, could you recommend it so we too may test? And has anyone said "forget it" and went back to paraffin or a s/p blend? Appreciate your feedback.
