Any tips for centering wicks in jars or containers in general ? Its so frustrating - any advise would be greatly appreciated. Ive seen wick centering thing -ies

but they seem price + not sure how easy they are to use + do they only work on certain jars /sizes. Saw one on CS + Bittercreek - bitter creek being more

    expensive . Thanks again !

    Hi Moonstar!

In all the years of my candle making, there are TWO times I seriously felt like crying with joy (maybe I did...it's been so long ago)...it was when I purchased my two presto pots w/spigots (no longer had to do double boiler method) and when I got these EZ Wick Setting tools...I got one of each....Seriously...my frustration with trying to center wicks drove me absolutely crazy and to tears.. You use these with the wick stickums..once I place my wicks in the jars, I tamp the metal edges down with the unsharpened end of a pencil to make sure they are secure to the bottom of the jar. To me, this is one of the best inventions ever made for the candle maker. I also use these to center tabs for votive cups and my coconut shell candles. These will not fit into every jar...and that is when you place everything as level and as evenly as possible and then wick using these, but if I did not have these, my wicks would be way off.  I have had these for years and just love them. :) They are worth every dime you pay for them.

I ordered NG Hayride for my customer to review and they didn't like it....said it was too light.  These people run a Draft Horse Rescue Organization so I'll take them at their word.  How does Sweetcakes compare to NG's.... I noticed it's pretty pricey so don't want to really order just for them to sniff and say nope.

    Thx

    Brenda

Hi BLT212. I know everyone's sniffer is different BUT I just love the SC Fresh Mown Hay. I tried the BCN Hayride version and it didn't smell a bit like hay to me...but that's my sniffer.  I was looking for a TRUE hay scent for blends.....well SC has it and I'll betcha they would really like it. You owe it to yourself to at least try a small bottle. I think you just might love it along with those Draft Horse Rescue Organization folks. :)

Good Morning!  I am so glad I found this forum and that it is active!  I am just getting started making candles.  I made them as a kid in the garage and just fell in love with it.  Well that was many many moons ago and now the bug has bitten me again!   I saw that there was an FO review thread, is there one for wax?  I will be using paraffin and there is so much out there, I don't know what to get.  Would love to know from others what they've bought and like.  I look forward to interacting with everyone as I begin this journey!

Hi Lora  :hello: and welcome to the board! Fellow paraffin user here. I love my 4786 container wax and 4625 pillar. :)

Thank you for the link :) it says does not include 90 degree handle ??? I wonder what that is . Also, if anyone has/uses one of these how do you clean them ?

Im not handy in the least bit so Im wondering if theres something out there that requires no assembly - just plug in + go .

    Hey Moonstar,

You don't need that 90 degree elbow at all. You will never miss it.  It would screw up into the spigot. When I do my tarts, I put my tart blend wax into the pot.. when the wax is melted,  I then use what I need and if there is any left, I just leave it in there. It will solidify in the pot and when I need to make more I just plug the pot back in....it remelts the wax and I am ready to pour tarts again and just have to add more wax as needed. If you will need the presto melter to make other types of wax products, just pour the leftover wax into a stainless steel bowl and cover it, but I always label what type the wax is. At that point (when you pour the wax into another bowl or use all the wax in the melter) you can wipe out the whole inside of it with paper towels.   I use these presto pots to just melt the waxes, use the spigot to fill up my pour pots (I put my liquid dye, my UV inhibitor and my scent into the pour pot)...the only thing my melter has in it, is wax only. I will tell you something else I do which I learned way too late...you know all wax has black specks, etc in it.  Get yourself a tightly meshed strainer (tea bag strainer) and lay it across the top of your pour pot and as the wax comes out of the spigot, it goes through the strainer and you end up with really clean wax. Those black specks at the bottoms of my jars/tarts used to drive me crazy, until I started using the strainer. I love it too. :)

I'm going to order this one. It sounds awesome!!! Read all the details and let me know what you think.

    http://www.prestopotwaxmelter.com

I ordered 2 of these melters years and years ago from this company and just love them and the spigots too. Now, you do have to wait until the wax does melt enough in the spigot to allow free flow of the wax into the pour pot, but I just love mine and once it does melt, even as you are adding more wax to melt, it won't stop up on you again while you are using it. It is just the initial getting started. I clip a candy thermometer on the side of this warmer to make sure I keep my temps where they need to be.  But, while the wax is melting and the spigot is warming up, I get my other things done for making my tarts etc while my wax is melting anyhow.    When mine die...if they do, I will order from these guys again. :)

Well, I took the plunge and ordered the "expensive" VBN from WSP as everyone kept saying how wonderful it was.  I never ordered from WSP as they are so expensive, but I'm that desparate to find this fragrance.

Well, you guys....you were all right!  This fragrance is a 'BOMB'!!!  Its so awesome......After a 7 day cure (I couldn't stand waiting 2 weeks walking past the candle all the time) I thought I would test burn it....omg.....I can't tell you what a powerful scent it has.....and I love it.....!  I just don't know how I could sell this fragrance in my 2 accounts being that it is so expensive...But I'm so in love with this it's unbelievable.  Here is what I have it burning it.  And to top it off, I even got my wick sizes down on this piece of pottery on the first try...1 cd10, 1 cd7 and 1 cd6...  Funny thing about this piece that I fell in love with.  It was 39.00 retail and the owner give me a little 10% discount but it was one of those things you know you just gotta have?.....well I found it online for 22.00!  I would have thought myself personally with all that I do for this shop (is one of my accounts) she would have sold it to me for cost.....ha!  I even told the owner that I wanted 3 more for gifts and she like the idea so much when I bought it telling her I was going to pour into it that she gave me one from stock to make for her for her shop....

Oh my goodness!!!! Must. Not. Read....   I can't even begin, or really want, to guess how much money I already have unvested in fragrance oils.  Tonight I found a couple that I forgot I had!  And I was about to purchase them again!  LOL.  I cannot, however, find a dupe for BBW Winter scent!!! Does anyone know if they even have one?  It's a very sensual pine woodsy kind of smell.  Would love to find one.

I'm glad I'm not the only one here that can't blend scents.  I tried to create a whiskey citrus blend and it was an utter fail!  So I take great advice from you all ?

Aw...you can do it. These lists can give you lots of great ideas. I want you to know that I HAVE made some STINKER scents blending...but that is how ya learn. I want to encourage you to keep trying MLG...and I just loved the picture of you with the moo moo on the other thread....SOOOOO cute!!:)
