ok. just checked the double wicked 93 and have same result...burns out before full melt pool. can't keep a hot enough pool for a throw or burn, let alone a safe burn. have to dump this on my list, but fortunately isn't on my buz list...was just a test supply I truly enjoyed OOB; wasted enough wax trying to get it to play nice. back to my FO guru. best.

Does this vary per wax, in your experience? Or per fragrance oil? I have so much to learn, and have utilized the forums completely, and after over a year of testing of this single oil, still can't get this one damn oil to work with my stuff. This headache makes me love my regular supplier oh so much:rolleyes2

I have searched high and low on the net, but can't get any results re: Gelluminations Blackberry FO. I, and others, LOVE the scent, but I can't get it to burn. Tried 8 oz jj wicked with 51-32-18. Minimal burn; about 30 mins; self extinguishes. Tried a 16 oz apothecary, double wicked, and same results. This is my fricken fourth test batch! I love this oil, and Lorrie's Huckleberry is good replacement; actually has better hot throw...but how would I know...don't think a 93 wick in an 8 oz tin would burn. Could i have just received a bad batch?

Sorry...just pissed at playing with this pretty scent.

So, my not so sharp single parent self woke up this am and went like hell at the wax. About 10 am I wanted to call my supplier for advice, but braced myself because it was Sunday morning. Waited until 11ish, and still didn't even consider the idea that today was FATHER'S DAY? Sorry for being so inconsiderate. Here are a few I poured early this week. I used Vanilla, Blueberry Muffin, and Fresh Strawberries. This was just a test batch. I'm fairly satisfied with these, especially since this isn't a size I use for biz.

Good luck! The planning phase has been quite a learning experience. Luckily, I have an awesome and experienced teacher/mentor to help with these kinds of things, and my first fundraiser will just be small (approx. 10 cheerleaders raising $$$ for national competition costs.) But no matter the size, I still want to have all my paperwork be concise, legal, and accurate. I know I have found a few other links with helpful info, and as I come across them, I can forward if you would like.

I love my Presto Pot! My husband added the spigot and it works great with no drips. I do not add and colour or frangrance to the pot. I just use it to melt my wax.

Can I ask where you got the directions for the spigot? I saw it on the Peak site, and showed my bf. He said it would be easy, and he could easily do it at work (cnc machine shop). I just wanted to see how others were doing it.

I'm eager to do this, as my Presto pot came with a plastic handle/screw that was already stripped, so it needs to be tightened frequently, and feels unstable. I should have exchanged the darn thing, but I was in too much of an ape-shit hurry to try it out.

Thanks for all the insight. My company chose soy for many reasons, but the top is the benefit to the US economy. Michigan has been severely hit by the recent economic challenges, and we felt it necessary to show our support of our local agriculture by using USA grown products to produce our candles. Not trying to be controversial, just trying to take care of our own!

I'll, pointlessly, throw in here that soy is not healthier or cleaner. Especially if you add chemical fragrances to it.

If you say it is, though, it could certainly help sell candles, and is widely done.

Why would you bother to post a "pointless" reply? I feel your information is rude, inaccurate, and ill willed. Please refrain from posting to my replies or threads. We are all here to share, learn, and grow...your attitude doesn't help anyone.

Use quality FO's, sometimes cheap is cheap and you'll get what you pay for. Unfortunately, you won't know what works for you until you test. Yep candlemaking is a very expensive hobby and if you aren't comfortable with spending money during your testing phase, you need to find a cheaper hobby.

Your post, particularly this portion, is so true. I've spent the last 18 months in research and development, and have spent big $$$ to do so. I learned early on that quality FO is the key to a great scent throw. Don't be afraid to spend the extra couple dollars per lb. to get a quality oil. I purchased a few "duds" when a major seller had a big $12.00 per lb. sale, and regretted about 50% of the purchase. The availability of 300 scents from a supplier does not mean they are top quality. Testing is the only way to achieve optimal results. I swore this would only be a hobby...that was 18 months ago. Now that I've got a stellar product, how can I not market it? :smiley2:

I use the Millenium soy for all my container candles, including tins, doublewick 120z. cube jars, 8oz square masons, and 16oz apothecary, as well as my clamshell chunks and 2 0z warmer melts. I have had amazing results, and am so glad I made the switch to sustainable soy this past year. I get almost all of my supplies from J&L Creations. They offer the BEST customer service, and are very expedient. I haven't experimented with votives yet, but am working on the clamshell package with the double votives for Fall, '10. I know that J & L carries quality votive wax, and my company will continue using and recommending the products they carry and recommend. They also offer cotton and paper wicks...my company is all about sustainability and recycling, so I hear you on that! Good luck with your new endeavor. I'm new at the sales end, and am just about to launch my website; just have to add the shopping cart (hopefully by June 4)!
