  1. That is all very helpful. I really didn't see how the 6006 would release from the clamshells, but she is supposed to e-mail me back tomorrow as she had made some clamshells with that wax and would let me know if they released from the mold. She said the 464 frosts and there is something added to the 444 so it doesn't. Also she said the 444 can hold more scent oil. She also said the 464 tends to crumble when you take it out of the clamshells and the 444 doesn't. I am completely confused and on information overload, but it will all work itself out.

I am going to start the testing of all the different wax mixes I made up on Sunday. I can't wait to try the Candlesource wax.

  2. I just talked to customer service at Candle Science and Heather suggested trying either IGI 6006 or GB 444. I was curious if anyone had tried either of these. I am curious if the 6006 releases from the clamshells, and I am also curious if the 444 makes pretty tarts with no frosting? I will be a full on expert about tart wax when this "research and development" phase is over with hee hee.

  3. Mac Apple from CS didn't throw for you? I was testing it one day (one cube 464/ecosoyapb blend in an electric warmer) it was so strong in the house I could taste it and my neighbor called me to ask me what scent I had burning because she could smell it wafting into her yard.

Does one have better scent throw?

What ratio do you mix the 2 waxes, 50/50?

  5. Flowerbaby, I tried various combinations with the 4794. I tried 4794 and 415.

    4794 and C-3

4794 and Ecosoya PB (longer curing)

    4794 and 464

    4794 and 4630

Going by my notes, of all those combinations (50/50) best HT was 4794 and 4630, followed by 4794 and PB and 4794 and 4630.

Found not much difference by adding 4627 to the 4794, except that the HT lasted a bit longer.

These were my results; yours may be totally different.

    HTH

I appreciate all the suggested mixtures. My one problem with that wax is that it is so dang hard. Not nearly as easy to use. But I would be willing if it was really good. Thank you.

  6. OK so far I've gotten about 10 hours of good scent throw now it's fading. I can still smell that it's hot apple pie but only

when I get right up to it. I like it so far better than KY's.

Well that is very encouraging. I just received my slab yesterday (the Candle Source Wax) and I have to work tomorrow, but me and my husband are going to test the Candle Source Wax, the 4794 with 4627 and the ecosoya with 4627 this weekend. I am going to heat to the 185 that you all recommended and wait about 4 days to test and will let you all know what I thought worked out the best. I will do them all in the same scent so it will be a true test. I will be sick of that scent at the end of this little science project, but that just goes with the territory. hee hee

  7. Flowerbaby, I have and tried the Ecosoya PB. I heat it to around 195, add FO, stir and pour. It does have good HT, but I have much better luck/results with the wax from The Candle Source (just placed another order today; Loren must love me, lol).

Most of the time I have no problem with release. I use the no-stick mini muffins pans. If I do have the occasional release problem, I put the pan in the fridge for a few minutes and out they come. HTH

Well I appreciate so much all of the help I have received. I am going into mad scientist mode this weekend. I will let you guys know my results. Thanks again. Elizabeth

  8. I use Ecosoya PB too and get great hot and cold throw. I heat to about 185. Pour the wax into my pour pot and stir a little to dissolve my dye chip. Then add the fragrance oil. Stir the oil in for 10-15 seconds, let it cool to about 145 then pour into clamshells. Sometimes I'll stir again about halfway through the cool down.

    Jo

Great. I will try it again. I am probably just not getting it hot enough. I really love the ease of use of the Ecosoya and the Ky and I love the creamy finish. I hope I can work with one of them. Thank you, Elizabeth

  9. yep that was my biggest problem with KY wax. So far I'm liking TCS wax the only thing I don't like is that it don't just fall out of the mold's like KY's did. I have to bang the mold a few times on my table for them to fall out but on the good side when I did have to do that with KY wax (not very often) the tart would break it hasn't done that so far with TCS wax. I'm going to test MI's Hot Apple Pie tonight. I'm such a food FO HO, lol

Cindy, Which supplier is MI? And as far as your tarts not coming out of the molds. Are they clamshells or a different type of tart mold?

  10. Thank you, Cindy; let us know if you like it.

This is my very favorite wax for making tarts/clamshells. I know that some don't get the same great results like I do, and I really don't know why.....

I tried KY parasoy for tarts more than once, and was very, very disappointed; I just couldn't get it to work for me :-(

Was it poor scent throw that was the reason it did not work for you.

  11. Flowerbaby, I use paraffin (my main, beloved paraffin is the one from The Candle Source) and it does have a creamy appearance. The CBL129 on the other hand, does not; you can tell it's paraffin (that's the other wax I use).

If i were you, I would let the wax get hotter before adding the FO.

Ravens, I am going to try several combinations of waxes this weekend. I have a slab of the Candle Source wax on its way. I noticed another candle maker on this post said she was having trouble with that wax releasing from the clamshell. Do you have any suggestions? And I am definitely going to heat the wax hotter. Thank you so much for your help.

  12. could also be a simple case of candle nose.

Definitely could be part of the problem, but I think something has changed with the KY Parasoy wax. It used to have great scent throw and recently just not the same. I am thinking I need to go to more paraffin as it seems the consensus is that Paraffin wax has better scent throw. What do you think?

  13. OK I also just ordered a slab of this wax, I've been using KY's since she came out with it and the last couple of boxes

I was not happy with at all so I'm going to give this one a shot & hope it work's for me. I will post when I get some tarts

    made.

I have become unhappy with the KY Parasoy Votive and Tart wax. I am not getting the same scent throw from my tarts for as long anymore. Is that the problem you are having?

  14. Are you sure it is just that you are used to the smell? Has anyone said that it dies down after 2 hours?

I am feeling somewhat better this morning, because I had started the 1 oz of wax at 5 PM and at 11 PM when my son came home, he said he smelled it and then this morning I moved the warmer into my kitchen and was outside for a while and when I came in I could smell it, but I would still like it to be stronger. Thank you.

I am interested in trying the Candle Source wax and I will do some experimenting this weekend with the temperature being hotter and I may add some of my container paraffin wax to the Ky and the Ecosoya and see what happens. Thank you so much.

  16. I use Ecosoya PB wax for my tarts and with test burning of 10 hours + a day, I can sometimes get up to 3 days of throw, depends on the FO. My tarts are about 2-3oz each, 1 tart per burn. Some of the FOs I use start off weak, and take an hour or so before the scent throw is really strong. I'm using an electric tart/candle warmer to test and I also allowed about 2 week cure time with these tarts I'm testing now. These FOs I'm testing now come from AH/RE. I melt the wax to about 175, and add FO at 150, stir about 2 minutes and pour.

I have recently purchased a small amount of the Ecosoya PB and still not much more than a couple of hours of good strong scent throw. This is so weird. All I can figure is the temperature of the wax. I must need to heat the wax hotter. I am actually probably adding my scent at about 165 and pouring at around 150, so not that different than you. I need to move my warmer to a different location and see if that makes any difference. I am so frustrated, because they were great and now they are not. Maybe if I am lucky it is just my smeller.

  17. I use mostly use Candle Science, Ky and Lone Star. All the oils seem to work well in candles.

I have noticed from some of your other posts that you use paraffin wax rather than soy. Is that for scent throw? Is there any other reason you prefer paraffin to soy. A friend gave me a few cubes of Scentsy to compare to mine this evening and I haven't tried them yet, but will tomorrow. One thing I did notice is they look to be paraffin wax. They don't have the creamy look of soy. I have been told they last a long time. Maybe it is time for me to make the switch.

  18. I use that wax, but heat mine to 180, add FO, stir for a minute or more, and pour around 155. I use a 9% FO load with most oils (less on the really strong ones) and I've always had great results (more than 8-10 hours per tart).

What size ounce wise is your tarts that throw for 8 - 10 hours. I will definitely try increasing my temperature and go up a bit on my oil. I sure hope that helps.

  19. KY is a great wax and seems like you're using 8% FO load which should be fine for most oils. I completely agree that you need to add oil at 185 degrees. Stir for at least one minute after you add the oil to the wax. I make my own wax blend and my pouring temp is not important since I don't get a dip at all on the tops. Years and years ago I used KY and as I recall, it also does not get much of dip. With tarts/clamshells, pouring temp has to do with the way the tops look, not the scent throw. You might want to try 9% which would be 1 oz oil to 8 oz of wax, total of 9 oz and/or heating wax to 185. Who are some of you FO suppliers?

I will definitely try heating the wax higher even though that is not what KY recommends. Maybe that will help. I am thinking maybe I need to change to a wax combo that has more paraffin. The KY used to be so strong people would say it was too strong, and we haven't changed anything we are doing. It makes me wonder if something has changed with that wax. Also, they are now further away from me and much higher freight charges.

  20. Oh yes, I forgot about the cure factor. I wait at least a week to test them. I just melted one that I poured a couple of months ago and it was so nice and strong- had it going for 2 full days and was still strong when I was ready to move on to a different scent.

I just can't get over the fact that 1oz. of wax is throwing for 2 days. I always let mine cure for 4-5 days. I mean I put 2 cubes in around 5 pm today. It is now 11:30 and I can still smell it, but not nearly as strong. Do I need to add more paraffin wax do you think. Does the soy just not throw as well?

  22. I use Ky Parasoy Votive Tart Wax and .70 oz. of good fo to 8 oz. of wax. I heat the wax to the recommended 165 degrees and pour at the recommended 155 degrees. And I can put 2 cubes from a 6 unit 3 oz. clamshell and the scent throw is very strong at first and then fades away within a couple of hours. I am reading that that amount of wax should throw strong scent for 8 - 10 hours. My jaw dropped. I can't imagine what I am doing wrong. I assume using the wrong wax. Please, can you help me. I am not sure what direction to go. Thank you in advance for your help. (P.S. I am testing in a Candle Warmers unit with a 25 watt bulb.)
