Is your scoopable parasoy blend KY Parasoy Tart and Votive Blend?
-
I have been using the KY133 Paraffin Wax for my tarts as I have been told that paraffin wax has the best scent throw. Today when we were pouring tarts, I was having problems with the oil separating from the wax. I checked the temperature and it was 180 and I stirred it in for 2 minutes. Don't know what is happening. Any suggestions?

If you could just send me a piece of paper with the oil on it, I can tell right away if it is the right one. My address is 1900 Eagle Crest Lorena, Tx. 76655. I would really appreciate it if you would do that for me. Thanks so much . Elizabeth

I have been purchasing High Maintenance Fragrance Oil from Starrville in Tyler, Texas and they no longer carry it. Does anyone know another supplier that carries it. Thank you, Elizabeth

I am having the hardest time finding a good cinnamon stick smell that burns well in candles and doesn't have a harsh smell while burning. Suggestions?
-
If you don't mind me asking what type of wax do you use to attain scent throw for that long and how much oil do you use for a batch of say 3 - 6 unit standard clamshells?
I have been using KY's Soy Paraffin tart votive blend and am somewhat satisfied, but the shipping is killing me. They sold out to Rustic Escentuals and I am paying $28.00 shipping for a 50# box of wax.

I guess I am a little slow, but what is CO and BW? Not seen these before.

I think I am going to experiment with wicks first. I like 6006 mixed but not straight. As far as the jar being over wicked, I don't see that as the problem because it is not sooting the jar and it actually wants to bog down in the fat part of the jar. The jar is an 18 oz. Victorian Keepsake and I have it double wicked. If it was depositing a lot of soot on the jar or was burning really hot, I would say that is the problem. I really think it is something screwy with the coating on the wick, but may be wrong about that.

Yes, I use mostly CS oils and 4627 wax and have awesome scent throw. I use eco wicks, but am in the process of possibly experimenting with wicks. I am still having some issues with soot on the jar and on the wax. Not sure what is causing that. I have made candles for 3 years and the soot on the wax is a new issue. I can't imagine why you are not getting great scent throw with that wax and the cs oils.

Which wax do I need to change, the soy or the paraffin?
-
I have noticed that when I trim my wicks the black burned wick is very sticky and won't come loose from the wick trimmer unless I use a paper towel or tissue to remove it. Maybe the coating on the wick is the problem.

Great suggestion. I have been reading a lot of threads and I use 4627 and 6006 and it sounds like LX is really good with those waxes. Maybe they would work better. I wonder for an 8 oz. jar with a 3" diameter and an 18 oz. jar double wicked, what would be a good starting point on wicks?
-
I think my issue must be my wicks after reading all of these posts. I have been using Eco 8's in my 8 oz. 3" diameter jars and double wicking Eco 6's in my 18 oz. jars, and as long as I trim the wicks VERY short I don't have too much of a sooting issue unless it burns for more than 5 or 6 hours. The problem is getting your customers to trim their wicks VERY short. I think I may try the LX wicks. Does anyone have recommendations on sizes to start with going by the size jars I use? I would appreciate any help in making my selection. I had gone by CS's suggestion that the Eco's were best in both of these waxes, but that may not be the case. Thank you in advance.

I would not try 6006 now. It has more serious problems than just smoking. Carole
I am suddenly having some issues with my candles and I use a mixture of 6006 and 4627. I am having soot deposit in my wax. Can you fill me in on what the problems are with the 6006. I would really appreciate it, as I have used this wax for 3 years and suddenly am having issues. Thank you so much.

Well that is good to know. I buy my eco's from CS as well. It doesn't happen with all scents. I have had it happen with their vanilla hazelnut and their mistletoe. Not sure why this is happening. I haven't changed anything that I am doing. I mean yes, if you don't trim the wick of your candle each time it will soot on the jar, but I don't understand the soot depositing on top of the wax.
-
I think if anything may have changed it could be the wicks. I use the Eco series. It was the wick most recommended by Candle Science for the 2 waxes I combine and for the size jars I use. But the question is, how do you find out if they have changed and where do you start in trying other wicks?

I am baffled by this new thing. I have been making candles for 3 years the same way and now I am having soot float on the top of my candles. Gross. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

I use 444 for my tarts and they do frost, but that doesnt bother me. They release well. I used to use the 464, but they tended to stick to the molds and were a bit soft for my needs. I have also done the 444 in clamshells. they release great, but they are very crumbly and can be messy. I didnt like that about it.
So you do use the 444 for tarts, but just not clamshell tarts. Is that correct?
-
75% PB 25% 464. Releases well from the clamshell and from the bowl pretty well once it is cooled.
Thanks for sharing. I am testing my first wax combo from all the different ones I made this weekend. I am testing the Candle Source first. It didn't release from the clamshell quite as easily as I would have liked, but I did get it out. So far the smell is good, but I will let you know how many hours it lasts. I am testing 2 squares out of a 6 square clamshell. Approximately 1 oz.

I wanted to let you all know that Heather at Candle Science e-mailed me this morning and she says that the IGI 6006 "released beautifully from the molds." I am going to make some up this weekend and see what results I have.

flowerbaby.....my para-soy mix tends to dimple a bit on the tops after they have cooled. The added bit of soy prevents that. Tarts are still nice and hard and ship perfectly. It's just an asthetic thing for me. (I don't think I spelled that right).
I see. I use Ky's parasoy votive wax and it does dimple. It is good to know that with the 444 it wouldn't. I am on a quest for a wax that gives the longest scent throw. I have been somewhat dissatisfied as of late with the Ky . it seems different in that it doesn't seem to throw as long as it once did. I have been told to heat the wax hotter than what KY recommends. I am testing several different blends of waxes including the Ky that I heated to 185 and will let you know my results.
Is it the KY parasoy wax that you use?

6006 would not be good on it's own for tarts...I use a para-soy tart wax blend and add 20% 444 and they release just fine from molds and clamshells. I think the only real difference between the 464 and the 444 is the melt point...464 has a lower melt point than the 444.
What is your reason for adding the 20% 444?

I know this is a silly question, but which supplier is WSP?
