  1. You could chain 4 or 5 sts or less I don't know what yarn or hook you are using or the size of finished flower, but this should work for any yarn or hook, join with a sl st to the last chain , then do a *sc, hdc ,dc ,dc ,hdc ,sc* , This set forms a petal , do as many as you like around the circle.

  2. I just wanted to add that I had a fairly thick piece of styrofoam , I chiseled an indention the length and width of the lid, so I can use it for peaked or fancy topped soaps and they don't get flattened. It was a piece of packaging from a coffee pot or something , but it works like a charm.

  3. I have been using home made laundry soap and I love it.

Here is the recipe , I have a front loader and put it in with the clothes instead of the dispenser.

    224 grams lye

19 oz water take out 3/4 of a cup and save it.

    4 tbsp borax

    1Tbsp salt

    1 Tbsp sugar

    2 Tbsp ammonia

    16 oz coconut oil

    21 oz shortening or crisco

    14 oz palm oil

    4 Tbsp sifted baking soda

Add lye to water (save the 3/4 cup out)

Stir and dissolve lye and add the borax, stir well

Bring the 3/4 cup of water nearly to a boil and add the salt and sugar , stir well until dissolved, add the ammonia and set aside.

    Melt your oils

When the oils and lye are to 100-100 degrees, add the lye , stir well and add the salt, sugar and ammonia mixture, , mix well, when near trace add the baking soda and mix well. Pour into mold , when ready to remove , I cut it into bars or chunks and let it sit for a week or two .Then I shred it fine , in my cuisinart and I use it powdered.I find it cleans very well. I haven't tried making it into the liquid soap, but I am sure that you could.:cheesy2:

I made the soap yesterday, it has a swirl layer , a shred layer , and a curl layer. I can't t wait to take it out of the mold, if it turned out I will post pics.I am pretty new to soaping , so I never know for sure what I have created..lol

  5. I have been searching for the answer to this question with no luck. What got me started in soaping was going to an auction where I got my car and trunk full of mostly melt and pour soap stuff for $50.00. That got me started on researching soap making and I am really loving making and using the cold process soap and would like to use some of the melt and pour in it as imbeds ,if possible.

Any help much appreciated , if it is not recommended that is okay too, the grands will have a blast making soap when they are a little bit older..:cheesy2:

    TIA Kellie

  6. :cheesy2: Hi Kellie welcome to the board. Yes you have entered an addiction for sure. What kind of soap will you be making?

Well ,I made a salt bar that turned out great (if I do say so myself). I made a pine tar soap for my hubby and me he has psoriasis and I have eczema,it is a wonderful bubbly soothing bar. I have made some goatsmilk and honey , but there is a trillion more that I just have to make..:cheesy2: I want to learn all I can and come up with my own recipe , it is pretty expensive to get ingredients shipped to me , so I don't want to waste them.Coconut oil in the health food store is $16.00 a pound and more , there is no palm in town . So until I get my order I am reading , reading, reading..

Thank you all for your warm welcome.I much appreciate it.
