  1. I have been making candles for two yrs,and I have always read that you need to put your candles in the oven to let them cool slow.I have always done this, put them in the oven,or under a box. What is the purpose of this.Do they have a better throw, burn better,or what?It has gotten hard to find a place to put them,I am making so many now.

    Thanks,Anna

  2. She has the same water as I have, and I don't have this problem.I know this is crazy.Only thing,we have differant kinds of tubs.My tub is 50 years old,and hers is a new fiberglass tub. Please don't think this is a stupid thread, because this really bugs me

  4. We are having the same issues. We are trying different wicks due to soot, etc. and I am keeping my fingers crossed that it also clears up this problem. I know with the jars I was testing, the discoloration did seem to be worse on the ones that were over-wicked.

Good Luck and let us know if you figure out what the culprit is! :cheesy2:

(Are you, by any chance, using 4630/1945 Harmony wax?)

Jane I am using J50,I have use this wax for two years.Terrie,I could never get the JS123 to work for me.I gave up on it,I have 2 1/2 cases sitting on the floor in my workroom.

Jane, this may seem odd but,I am not having a problem with soot, there is no soot on my jar.it's just that the melt pool is a dark color.I am going to try a smaller wick, just to see if that is the problem. This is the first time I have use this fo (Pina Colada).

  5. I don't believe it is overly wicked. The melt pool is about 1/2 inch, with no mushroom, good scent throw.I have burned it four times for four hrs,and hadn't had to trim the wick.

    Bunny, thanks I guess it's not my night.I am going to bed.Tomorow I will try a smaller wick.It is a 16 oz apoth,with two 44-28 zinc.I think I will try the 44-24's.

    Thanks again,Anna

  6. I am testing Pina Colada fo in a container, and I didn't put any color in the wax.The melt pool is so ugly,it looks burnt. Then after I put the candle out,and the wax sets up,the melt pool is a ugly grey.I left the wax uncolored, because I figured a Pina Colada Drink was white.Would you do it in a differant color? If so what color?

    Thanks,Anna

  7. I unmolded a log of soap tonight, and the top, sides, and bottom was brown.the middle is a pretty white with yellow swirls. What happen to the soap?I added TD to the soap to make it white. This is the first time I have used TD,and the first time for the edges of the soap to turn brown.

    Thanks,Anna

  8. Can substitute palm oil for lard, but I didn't have enough lard to finish out my master batch,I needed 2 1/2 more lbs.Can I use 2 1/2 lbs of palm oil, with the lard?I hope I explain this right.I didn't know if they had the same Sap value.

    Thanks,Anna

  9. Thanks everyone for your replys. It was made with distilled water, with nothing added except lye.I thought about heating it up in a stainless pot.If that don't work I will pitch it,and start over.

    Anna

  10. I made some lye water about a month ago.Tonight I opened it up,and it had crystals on top of the mix.I stired it and it would not mix in.What is this?should I throw it out,and start over.It was made in a five gallon plastic bucket, and 33% lye solution.

    Thanks,Anna

  11. hard to wick.It is Pink Sugar from WNW.I use the 16 oz apoth, and zinc wicks(two of them).I have tested 51-32 down to the 44-28,and they smoke. The 44-24 is to small, they drown out.Has anyone else had this problem with Pink Sugar? Can someone give me a suggestion?

    Thanks,Anna
