I was just wondering what people think about the WYW FO's... they are substantially more expensive but I am really looking to achieve a hand full of super scented candles for a smaller line of "specialty" candles within my brand. I am looking to do a total of 10 new fragrances (once I get this darn wicking right!) that have a long reaching HT. They seem to offer a few unique scents and I just love to buy FO's but I'm trying not to get too carried away:drool: Any opinions out there? What about experience with French Color and Chem? I can buy those locally but haven't tried them yet. BTW, Bought CS Mistletoe a week or so ago and was an amazing HT even though my MP wasn't quite right. It smelled up the whole downstairs of the house! Thanks!

set your jar on a piece of paper and trace the base of the jar, next get a ruler and measure to locate the center and draw lines that cross. When wicking, set your jars on the paper, and set your wick at the cross which will be the center! Voila!! ....obviously only works if you are using clear jars!

Just thought of another question based on Candleladys response....what does the jar height have to do with wicking. I knew that the diameter influences wick choice but I never gave any thought on the height???

You can ask the manager at walmart to get in however many jars you want and they won't charge you shipping. I spoke to the manager at my local Walmart and they said no problem.

Wow, double or triple wick a 3.5 diameter rocks glass! I'd really like to try to avoid doing that if possible. I had a woman locally who makes candles fill some jars for me and it looks like she is using a 60-44-18 zinc core wick in the same jar size although I have zero clue what type of wax she uses. She says it's a para/soy blend but I can't be sure. All I know is that her candles smell amazing and burn absolutely perfect and I would like to achieve the same with my endeavor.... o my this is hard!! Thanks for your response!

I gave that some thought and use my heat gun to level off the top of the candle (containers) then let it cool, add a new wick and try again....

I use the photo gloss labels from planetlabel.com. They come out nice and shiny and look very professional on my home printer.

I totally agree but it's a great way to get an idea of how a wick will burn when trying out new wax or fragrances. Thanks for responding!

I have been tirelessly testing wicks and came up with a more efficient system for testing that I thought I would share with everyone.... You seasoned veterans may already be doing this but here goes. I pour a candle with the wax and fragrance desired and allow the candle to completely set up without a wick. Then I use a small drill-bit (no need for the drill) and stick the drill-bit down the center of the candle and insert a wick without the wick tab. Then you just light and wait to see how it burns. If you don't like the result, pull the wick out with tweezers, re-melt the wax in the oven if necessary and do the process all over again with another wick. saves alot of wax and fragrance! Hope this was helpful!!

Thanks for the input everyone.... I'm gonna keep trying and see how it goes. I am planning to try out some j-50 this weekend as there is a supplier locally that sells it. BTW, I noticed that Fredron is in Cranberry PA! I am in Beaver county right down the road!

Thanks Rae! What CD wick would you recommend for a 3.5 in jar? Also, what percentage of FO do you use in the 606? I have been using between 6 and 9%..... Thanks for your help!! Erin

Hello all! I am new here but have been working on perfecting a super smelly candle for quite some time now. Was wondering if anyone can give me an idea o a paraffin or para/soy blend wax that when you stick your finger in he melt pool, it sort of dries quickly and is kind of flaky? The wax's I have been trying seem to be fairly oily. Any suggestions on less oily wax?

Hi everyone, I have been reading piles of posts on this site for the past few days and have found some great info! Thanks! My problem is.... Using IGI 6006 wax, 6% fragrance (tried various FO mfgrs), 14oz. rocks glass jars and multiple wick tests. I seem to have problems getting a good melt pool but when I wick up, I seem to get too much smoking or mushrooming-scent throw varies from FO to FO obviously. I have tried LX, HTP, RD, and zinc core wicks. Any suggestions? I feel like I'm missing something here and it's probably obvious! I am looking to achieve similar results as the Seda France Candles that I have burned for years - they seem to give a great throw and that is my main concern...less concerned with wet spots and I am not using color in any of this size.
