  1. The soy purchase was one of those spur of the moment things. My next purchase will have thought behind it. With the remaining soy wax I am going to experiment adding fragrance at different temps to see what happens with HT and CT.

  3. 'Truth in advertising' what are you thinking? I am surprise that the National Candle Association does not have more information outside of safety and market trends.
  4. I made several container candles using 1~1.5 oz of fragrance to 1 lb of soy. Not sure if the soy was 100% or blended as I bought a 3 pound setup on ebay and they did not name the manufacturer. Anyway, the scent from the cured candle smelled great and the first couple of hours gave off a good throw. Now when the candle is burned it smells like soy/parafin. What happend to the scent? When the candle cools the scent is still there, just not as strong as I remember from the initial cure. I added the fragrance just before I poured and mixed in well. The temp was around 115 degrees and I poured about 7 minutes later when it reached 105.
  5. I'll certainly will test. If I go with pillars, what is the maximum diameter I should go staying with a single wick. Good advice, thanks.
  6. Hey who HIJACKED my post? I reread beekeeper_sd post, and not to start an argument, he said beeswax candles emit the same light spectrum as the sun. I don't see where it reads as bright or as hot as the sun. To me that means that the colors I see from the light is nearly the same colors I would see when viewing the same object illuminated by the sun. Still I have to admit the humor found from his post was funny and I believe it was only meant, as was stated, to be in fun.
  7. My wife wants me to make candles of beeswax so yesterday I ordered some beeswax from Peak along with some square braid wicks size #1 and #2 along with wick tabs. I plan on using canning jars that are 8 oz and have a diameter of approximately 2.75". I have never used beeswax so any suggestions that you might have would be greatly appreciated.
  8. Where can I find information about blending 100% soy wax with beeswax? I want to understand the % used and why? I read blending 100% soy to beeswax gives a brighter light as wel as other benefits of blending these two.
  9. Tootie, Thank you for your reply. I had to laugh out loud at your response to wet spots.
  10. I just tried making soy candles yesterday for the first time. Have some questions I hope the brain trust here can answer for me: 1. Is there really a one pour soy? 2. Does soy require more dye over parrifin wax to get a desired color? 3. I use Dawn to clean glass jars and heat them to pour temperature, yet I still got wetting. Is this common with soy? 4. Is there a brand of soy container wax that is preferred over others? I want to use color from light to dark shades and scent them as well. Thanks for your help.
  11. I should probably stick to the old tried and true, topping off. Thanks for the feedback.
  12. I just received a soy candling making kit to give soy a try. When I use parrafin I generally just save some wax and top off. I read somewhere you can use a heat source on the top of the candle to fill the voids. I used my wife hairdryer. It did a nice job of melting the wax, but splattered the liquid in all directions. Not the result I was hoping for. I take it the blowerdryer was a bad idea or is there a technique?
  13. I use a popsicle sticks with holes drilled in them. I run the wicks through the holes and hold them in place with small binder clips.
  14. I am new to soy. I tried ordering from Peak, but they are out of most soy in the 10 lb option. Can someone recommend a good source for soy wax?
