  1. Hi all, Just a quick question. I use a basic recipe with Lard, Coconut oil, Olive oil and castor oil. Can I substitute 1/2 of the Olive oil for soybean oil? What will this do to my soap? Will it have a different quality? Thanks much, Vanessa
  2. about a teaspoon. This is my first attempt with charcoal, and it is a fresh bar, but I did try sudzing it up a bit, and just got slight grey bubbles.
  3. Yes I used charcoal & does that ever work well!!
  4. Thanks ladies for the activated charcoal idea - it sure works!! Nice black color, and good for the skin. Some of my recent soaps. Black Almond Kumquat/Musk Cranberry Fig and Berry Wine
  5. Wow! Thanks everyone. Where do I get activated charcoal? Thanks again, Vanessa
  6. Hi all, Just wondering. I've seen some pretty impressive soaps here that include a real black color in them. How do you all get that dark black color. I'm afraid my black will go grey, as it has when I've used it in M&P in the past. I have not tried black in CP yet. I have a black luster mica, should i try that - it goes grey in M&P. Thanks much, Vanessa
  7. Hi all, Just a quick question. Many of you speak of not wrapping your soap at all - or with only a sleeve. Saying it will sell better if people can smell the scent. My question for you - will the scent stay in the bar if it is not wrapped with shrink wrap? I have a cranberry fig curing right now and the scent has already diminished during curing time. Thanks much, Vanessa
  8. Hi all, Questions for you. I have looked through many of the soap pictures on the gallery and was wondering if someone could tell me how can I make my soaps more creamy and oqaque looking. Right now my soaps take on a mottled consistency, and the colors are not as bright and pretty as I've seen in other of your postings. To get this look am I going to have to prevent gel? Or is it the type of oils that I'm using? Thanks much for all your help, Vanessa
  9. Hi all, just a quick question.... My melt and Pour soap, I package with a shrink wrap system...because M&P soaps are moist & partly because I feel they loose their scent without a little protection. With my new start at CP soap....how should I package them. I see many package with just a pretty sleeve, leaving the bar open to the air. Do CP soaps loose their scent when kept open to the air like that or do they keep their scent much longer than M&P? Thanks so much for all of your help! Vanessa
  10. My bars are about a 2 weeks old in their curiing. Will they become more white as they cure? I did use the extra virgin olive oil. Thanks much, Vanessa
  11. Can anyone tell me how they make the color white in their soaps so nice and white. Is it the type of oils you use? I just made a CP soap with olive oil in and I know this tends to turn your soap a bit greenish/tanish. Does one have to put a colorant in your soap for a nice white? Thank you much, Vanessa
  12. Sorry, ignore this thread........thought it did'nt go throught the first time. Vanessa
  13. I'm soo thrilled with how it turned out. Thanks for looking everyone!! Vanessa
  14. I'm soo thrilled with the results. One question I have for you all. I waited to wash my soap dishes & equipment until 24hours after. The soap in the dishes was still slimy. Is this normal? Thanks for looking, Vanessa:highfive:
  15. Hi all, Anyone have any good easy starter recipe for a new soaper for an Oatmeal, Milk and Honey CP recipe? Do use a FO, or not? Is the honey added as an extra - and you don't need to discount anything because of the honey? Thanks for your help, you are all very Soap Smart!! Vanessa
  16. Hi all, I'm just about to make my first batch ever of CP soap. Question for you - what is the shelf life of CP soaps. I was at a craft fair where there was some CP soap sold & I felt the soap had a musty almost old/rancid smell. I DON'T want this to happen!! How do I keep this from happening. Thank you all, this site is a blessing, Vanessa
