  1. Thanks Toni for the info...and for asking this question. I've wondered to about the amount.
  2. Those are cool measuring spoons. Where did you get them?
  3. Thanks MissMary. That's what I thought, but wanted to make sure. Now I know people send scrubs, lotions, etc. to be challenge tested, but are lip balms & lotion bars supposed to be sent, too? I figure everyone is doing their own testing on those products.
  4. If I make something without nut ingredients, can I say that it's nut-free? Is that a drug claim? Wasn't sure how allergies figure into the cosmetic/drug claims.
  5. Ok, I have Marie Gale's book and I'm a little confused on when & where to use the warning label - warning: the safety of this product has not been deteremined. I'm making labels for my lip balms & lotion bars, so do I need to state them on there as well as the description on the website? Or is it just the labels? Or neither? PLEASE HELP!!!! TIA ETA - Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.
  6. Ok, how about borage & evening primrose oils?
  7. Just curious, what kind of oils do you have in the fridge? I just want to make sure I'm storing things correctly. Butters are in the fridge, too.
  8. THANKS SOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know there are calulators out there, but just like you said, I'd rather know first hand. You never know when the computer will crash. LOL! ETA - thanks for reading through my typos & grammer mistakes. Wonky day so far.
  9. Ok, I'm know many of you know how to do this, but at the moment, my mind is on strike. How do you trun a recipe with weights into a formula w/percentages? I'm not talking about soaps or anything specific, just in general. I'm playing around with several different recipes, but when all is said & done, I want to be able to turn them into formulas. TIA:smiley2:
  10. Ok, never mind. LOL! I NOW realize tht a topic was started. Well, if anyone else wants to add their info, that would be great.
  11. Well, in my quest for a natural chocolate flavor lippie (other than using cocoa butter), this came to my head of possibly using cocoa powder to enhance the flavor as well as the color. However, I'd like to know if anyone has done this. Were there any problems? Do you have to add a preservative cause of it? I hope not. How much did you use? TIA!
  12. I purchased mine from here & love it! Their customer service is wonderful. http://www.laidinmt.com/ 32oz...OUCH! It's completely refined (odorless & tasteless) and they're AEA (American Emu Association) certifed. I also did a lot of research on it and now give it internally to my son & daughter (1 tsp each) as well as externally on my daughter. She has really bad eczema. When I rub it on her skin, I mix a few drops w/avocado oil and it has really healed her flaky, dry patches. Whichever place you get it from, make sure they're certified.
  13. Actually, I have a long list of EOs. LOL! - Sweet Orange, 5-fold - Lavender - Lemongrass - Peppermint - Lime (steam distilled) - Rosemary - Vanilla (I think this is mixed w/jojoba oil...have to double check cause I've seen so many) - Rose (either absolute or Otto - both are not FCC, but it makes a nice "flavor") - Coffee CO2 (can't remember if this is FCC) - Bergamot FCF (not FCC, but safe to use in the sun) - Ginger - possibly cardamon & clove...not sure yet. I like to eucalyptus, but I know that may be too strong. Plus, only eucalyptus smithii (sp) is safe for children & elderly, but I don't think it's FCC. I'm not making lip balms specifically for children or the elderly, but I want it to be safe just in case they use them. BTW, I would love to use Lemon, Pink Grapefruit, Tangerine, & Mandarine, but I know they cause photosensitivity.
  14. I'm getting everything together to make my first lip balms and wanted to double check on how much EO to add. I have down to add less than 1% or 10 drops total per 3oz. Does this sound right? I know which EOs to use & avoid as well as which ones are FCC. Thanks.
  15. No, I wanted to use the oil for an eczema cream. I use the powder form in the dustin powder. Well, I guess there's no getting around it, so I'm just gonna have to break down & purchase some. It'll be my luck that I'll create a HUGE mess anyway.
  16. Well, I was thinking of perhaps putting it in a tea or muslin bag.
  17. Can you use powdered botanicals for infusions? I want to make a calendula infused oil for my daughter, but I just have so much calendula powder instead of the dried flowers. I'm using it in a body powder. Anyway, wasn't sure if its not "strong" enough since it's been pulverized. LOL! Trying to be a good girl & NOT order more stuff. Also, I have to use a different oil rather than the standard olive cause she's allergic to that. Sad, I know.
  18. That's what I'm about to use, but thought neem would be too strong. Huh, didn't know about the castor. Gotta try that out. I add avocado oil to my DD's diet to increase her caloric intake. Luckily, that's one oil she can tolerate. She has BAD eczema, too.
  19. Well, bayousome has 100 for $66. A little more. I'll check out deod. tubes, too, cause $60 is a little much.
  20. Yeah, I'm 98% positive you can't use flate rate for regular PM, but you can always ask. Do you have any other boxes? Any will do as long as what you print says "PM" on the label. Well, any that aren't huge. LOL! I have PM boxes in just about every sizs.
  21. Thanks so much everyone! You saved me from making a HUGE mistake.
  22. That's what I thought, so I'm not gonna mess w/one. Thanks!
  23. AHH!! I didn't see that one. Duh! LOL!
