  1. I'd just mention to your friend to change the wording a bit to say "believed to be an aid", because she's making a medical claim. Especially with:

Those statements should be changed to "It is believe to be a treatment".

Not trying to sound rude - but I'd hate to see someone innocently get smushed or sued.

Thanks MissMary I will do that.

  2. A friend of mine uses it in her soap, this is from her website. She just cuts open the stems and scrapes the gel out.

Aloe Vera - The mucilaginous juice or gel obtained from the leaves of this plant, widely used in cosmetic and pharmaceutical preparations for its soothing and healing properties. * Known to help reduce external scarring, relieve sunburn pains, scratches and cuts. It is an aid to growing new tissue and alleviating the advance of skin cancer caused by the sun. It is a treatment for ringworm, boils, inflamed joints, scalds, itchy allergic conditions, insect stings and bites. It creates a softening of external skin, relief from dry or sensitive skin and skin diseases. * We use our own home grown Aloe Vera that contains no preservatives or dyes - strictly organic.

  3. Thanks, you're using the 20 bar mold right? Yes

He told me 80oz for this mold, so I was thinking 40-46 would do it. Guess I'll experiment here in a little bit.

If 80 would be cut in half to make 24 bars I would still do 56 (3-1/2 lbs).

    single recipe = 40 ozs

double recipe to cut the bars in half = 80 ozs

I would do 60 ozs (actually 56 for 3 -1/2 lbs) if they are too thick you could always cut some off the bottom and use to decorate another batch, if you have a miter box or can cut straight. LOL I have to use a miter box. I couldn't cut straight to save my life. :smiley2:

  4. At Summer Bee Meadow you can enter a recipe and then resize it to fit a round/cylinder mold. It's kinda a backward approach if you ask me, but it works just fine.

Go here to enter the recipe, in ounces: http://www.summerbeemeadow.com/SitePages/SBMSoapCalculators.html

then click <Click Here When Done> to get the option for resizing.

I like this calculator, it's the one I use when I make pine tar soap. Just don't make the mistake I did, it gives the minimium water amount and I didn't pay attention to that. I got my soap out of the mold the next morning but it was a job and almost to hard to cut. But it finally came out. If it had been in the mold any longer it would probably still be in there. :)

  5. I scented mine, but I've heard that if you make them dark enough to color the side of the tub, they also color the wash cloth and the kid. LOL - I'm sure there is a way to do it without that hassle though.

It didn't color him LOL but I was concerned about that. He didn't use them on the wash cloth, he used other soap and just played with these. So I don't know if it would color the wash cloth or not. I think they probably would have.
