  1. I recently ordered some 100% soy shortening and love using it! But I don't know the properties for it. (I do know the sap) So when I compare my recipes in soapmaker it doesn't account for the soy shortening. The place I ordered it from doesn't show it on the site. I am not sure if I could use the same numbers you would use for regular soybean oil, seems like those might be a little off.... Any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA -emily
  2. My mom and I have been trying to figure this problem out as well! Mom lives too far away! She suggested using freezer packs as part of the packaging and overnighting the order. It would be too expensive for just one order, but if you shipped in bulk, or if the person thought it was worth it, you could give it a shot.
  3. scented Ginger Souffle The first pic is the bars right after cutting, the third is after a couple of days.
  4. you might just try a swirl and scent it something neutral, something that could be yellow or purple or anything in between. Maybe rose, since roses do came in any shades... I made a batch of rose soap that I swirled with a neon orange and a purple{I grabbed the wrong colors} and it still sold, just had to rename it! Let us know if you try it out!
  5. Maybe food coloring for edible body butters? I know a lot of companies sell micas esp for lip balms... not sure how that would work for body butters... Oh, maybe the wilton cake icing dyes (for butters) they have a HUGE selection of colors.... just a thought....
  6. I make a "butter" soap (hot seller) that has 50% butters. I NEVER let it go a full 24 hours, or I have to rebatch... I have to cut and trim as soon as I pull it out of the mold or I get a big pile of crumbles. Good Luck!
  7. Well, I finally got my butt back in my shop, and got to work! I just put to bed a 7 lb poppyseed/ shea batch! scented ginger souffle. I have avoided my candle/soap shop for a while (since september) cuz I did a big show, and lots of stuff went wrong... and I had tons of product left, and left my shop a big mess. I made some stuff for christmas, but only the bare minimum. and I didn't clean up this giant mess I left behind me. But I finally got a big portion of my mess cleaned up, and went to work. Now I have to figure out all the stuff I'm out of so I can get back to work full (part) time again!
  8. So you added the soap curls to the soap in the pot? I just tried to make a batch similar to yours, with little success. I put the soap shreds into the molds, then poured at very thin trace. I got about an inch of soap with shreds, and a ton of shreds on top... I think your soap looks wonderful!!! Congrats!
  9. I haven't been on in a while... I just want to say Everyone has some AWESOME soaps in here!!!! You guys are making me feel lazy! (Because I have been) I need to hurry up and get my internet back on so I can drool over all these beautiful soaps more often! I miss you all!
  10. You could use witch hazel, instead of alcohol. That looks amazing!!!!
  11. sorry to highjack the thread, but I have to ask.... so how long are you s'possed to cure HP? I know it will vary from recipe to recipe, but what is the average? I always wait a minimum of a month for my CP bars, but I have found I like the older bars better. They are REALLY hard, and of course they last longer...
  12. I just got some 100% soy shortening... I know the sap value, but little else about it... could I sub it for palm oil in a recipe? I just ran out of palm and kinda need something to replace it for the moment... the soapmaker program doesn't have the hardness/lather ect. values on it.. I haven't checked the other ones yet.. Just thought I'd see if anyone here has any useful tips on using the shortening... TIA I just found out I can spell check:) :smiley2: WOOHOO! Now, if we could could just get that smellavision going on:rolleyes2 edited to add: I've only been using about 10% of palm lately. I think I might give it a try and sub in some soy shortening for the palm this batch... Esp since it's a low %. I'll just have to make sure I don't change anything else so I can do some good comparisons......
  13. where'd it go? did I miss out? or did it disappear just for me? Sound s like a great idea!
  14. those look wunderful!!!!! Congrats on your first marbled and mottled!
  15. I have never had any problem with using a .5 or .75 oz per pound of FO to 1 lb of wax with peaks. People frequently wait 6 months because it smells so good I like BC's scents, but I have had a prblem with some of their hot throws.... I don't really order FO's from anywhere else... If peaks doesn't have it I go to BC...., if they don't have I probably can find something simiar from one or the other...
