Well, I did use the liquid dye I got at Michael's....took a heck of a lot of dye to get the color I wanted, but it turned out great. I guess the next time I get a liquid dye, I really need to get the stuff from an online candle supply. If I had only used a few drops, I wouldn't have gotten much color out of it. Took about 1/4 of the entire bottle to get the yellow I wanted. I am happy that the color I did get was perfect, but this would cost a fortune to use all the time, for sure! I'm working to figure out how to actually use acrylic paint on these, then I'll post them when I figure this part out, LOL! The candles I made look awesome, but they need...eyeballs!

Once you get a stronger liquid dye you can make up very small batches of wax with just a smidgen of the dye (start with dipping the end of a toothpick into the dye and adding it to a very small amount of wax and repeat until you get the color you want) - You can then paint with this wax until it solidifies, then remelt it or make another tiny batch

Do you really think it was professional enough?    I wasn't sure Scrubzz....Thankyou.    I am not good at being in situations such as this...I truly am not.  I don't like confrontation and I just didn't know how to write this to be quite honest.....well it's done....

    Thankyou for your support.....

Yes ma'am I do - I know it was hard - I don't know that I could have handled it that well - I would have wanted to go confront them personally and ended up ranting and raving and ended up having to come up with bail money lol - luckily I have my best half here and she is able to keep me out of trouble most of the time

  3. Well done Trappeur - I personally feel that you handled this sad situation in a very professional manner - I am sorry you have had to deal with all this but at least you got one decent order out of them to help make up for some of the time you have spent on them - as others have stated they are going to crash and burn swiftly if they believe they will be able to crank out a ton of product and wholesale them as quickly and easily as they seem to think - keep your head up and this will all soon just be another lesson learned

  4. As I have mentioned before I am unable physically (and financially) to do anything except read right now - I know the best way to learn is by doing but it is what it is and I am trying to learn what I can the only way that I can - My experience has mainly been with candles although I did play around with M&P a little bit - I did love the results of the M&P compared to off the shelf soap as did everyone whom I gifted it to - I do remember the discoloration of Pink Sugar to a dark brown which is pretty much my entire personal experience of discoloration in soap - Everything I make, be it candles or soap or whatever I do test - I thank you both for your comments - I like learning!

What are some of the other variables besides Vanillin that Can affect discoloration?

  5.

Several questions if you please -

I know that Vanillin can cause discoloration but over time does it cause discoloration in smaller amounts? What I mean is I have seen Vanillin listed at say 0.3% (just an example as I don't have specific numbers in front of me at the moment) and also seen notes on that fragrance stating there was no discoloration for that particular fragrance - I know that Vanillin listed at 17% is going to look like a bar of Hershey's Chocolate if a stabilizer or colorant is not added but is there some  "unwritten rule of thumb" as to a when a percentage of Vanillan in a fragrance will cause discoloration or do you just have to try it and for yourself and see?

Also I know other variables can cause discoloration - what other variables can cause discoloration?

    Thanks

  6. Well after reading all this I took Aztec off my list of potential suppliers - too many other FOs out there to even risk it - might be different but it doesnt sound like they are making any attempt to address the problem or even admit there is one - its sad too since I ordered from them back before life got in the way and I took a break from playing in the wax

  7. I apologise - I did not mean to offend anyone - I just remember the old board where the wix and wax section was as full of posts as the rest of the categories - I see people posting their testing in the general section and thought maybe writing it up and putting it in the actual wix and wax section might be nice

  8. I am still laid up and still just reading and making notes on about a million differerent things (as well as being too broke to actually do anything being off work anyway lol) but anyway, I have a request to make -

I know there are people who have been recently been doing wax/wix/jars testing as well as those who have a combination that they have down - how about sharing your info in a write up in the Wax and Wix Test section - It's nice having all the info in one section like that and there are a few that are in there but I sure would enjoy reading anyone else's tests results - It would be nice to have that section of the board filled up with write ups

    Thanks

You know what I do a lot?  I go to Lonestars site and click on the jar that I am going to use (as they have just about every style jar everyone has) and when you click on the style jar you are using they have tons of questions that people ask about and you can see lots of other selections of wicks that people say they use and whether they double or single wick them.  Don't click on the reviews, just click on the questions asked.

Thank you for this! I have been on Lonestar's site a million times as i order my wax from them since they are closest to me and have never seen this as I never thought to look!

  10. The problem I have is - everytime I narrow my supplier list down or my list of possible scents down I get to reading on here and add more - if I ever hit the lottery every penny of it will disappear immediately into FOs
