I enjoy eating at a middle eastern restaurant called Taboon
My favorite Sandwich is the Lamb Shawarma
Is there anywhere I could get a Cumin FO and a Cloves FO
to make a candle.
That would make my house smell like a Shawarma
I've been in the candle business for a while I just checked peaks candle and candle science they did not have these FO's any Suggestions for FO Suppiers???

I wanted to add some insight as a consumer and avid candle burner....
I buy and burn them all Parrafin wax, soy wax, palm wax, beeswax, etc.
What I have learned though the years is that they all have their own pros and cons.
-
I would like to experiment with making a long lasting taper
I figure The highest meltpoint Wax I can find
and the Coolest wick will make a long lasting taper
Or does it not work that way?
I wanted to ask the experts here...LOL...

This older 2-Page Thread may be of some use to you... Its right here on the forum.

I want to get into making candles just for myself someday...
But Money is to tight at the momment....LOL...
I can tell you when I buy candles I hate anything rose scented...YUCK.... LOL...
I have learned alot here just reading Thank You All!!!
-
How many do you put in a package?
-
I love all your peoples candles, they look sooo pertty...
I really love test burn pics...LOL:D
Keep those photos coming here in the gallery...
All of your candles are sooo pertty.

Are you making any candles or just surfing the net. Just the other day you recommended those glade candles.
I recommended Glade Glass Scents, NOT the candles.
-
I've heard a good range is $1.50-2.50 per ounce.
If thats the Case, How much is Yank** Charging per ounce for their 3x6.5 pillars at $11.64
This is roughly 23oz
-
I would be cautious with their test results since they used a 10% FO load when only 6% is recommended for this wax...
I wasn't going to try it, I just found it interesting.
-
Pillars, found this surfing the NET!
I thought some may find it interesting

To Me a Candle with Nice hot throw you should be able to smell standing anywhere in the room you have it in, yet not be over-powering.
-
Since this board is also about home scenting...
I wanted to reccommend Glade Glass Scents inperticurly the Clean Linen Scent for people that like subtle to moderate throw.
-
A diningroom table candle no matter how pretty, shouldn't smell as they say.
I Agree Vio.
When I'm eating if I'm gonna smell wax I want to smell straight parifinn. I like the smell of parifinn wax with no fo just as much as I like scents. Call me crazy if you like...
-
In My book if it can fill our 11-ft. 3" X 15ft. Family-room...
I will buy that scent again.
Keep in mind this room as a Bay-window which adds about an extra 2ft. of width to the middle of the room.

You're so right. This winter I kept my thermostate down lower than last winter and there was a huge difference in the burns. Several of my FOs had to be wicked up due to the ambient temps being aprox 10* cooler. (I decided it was cheaper to wear a sweater than pay the gas bill!!) The pillars that I send to the G'kids in Seattle always have a shell compared to no shell here in Ariz.
The wax I use will hold only 4% load - this winter I was able to go up to 6% with no weeping but now that our weather is in the 80s, I'll have to cut back again.
I've been making pillars about 3 yrs and this time last year I thought I knew everything about making pillars.......NOT
I agree with all your people's comments.
The Candle is a very conditional thing.
Refer to my Signature...LOL...
-
1.) Is 3x6 a Standard Pillar?
OR, if there is NOT a Standard size
2.) Is there a most Common size Pillar?
3.) For those of you who make Pillars What size do you sell the most of? ---Thanks In Advance.

Sorry, if this is the wrong spot.
I was searching the web trying to come up with the reason different kinds of candles were originaly made.
I know the taper was first used for light.
But, what was the origianal intent for Votives, Pillars, Jars, tea-lights etc... And who first made them?
(I'm guessing the tea-light was for tea-time before the light-bulb was invented...LOL...)
I found this a mind-boggling question.

This is very interesting...
I Don't make candles,
I just buy a alot of'em LOL. I read this board to be an informed candle buyer LOL...
I'm in Michigan and our high was 49ºF for today. we kept the heat at 70ºF
Bought a pillar at walmart a while a go and it did nothing but tunnel, I think it was under wicked because the wax it's made of is hard as a rock LOL
-
I totally agree with "MissMary's' Every Word.

I just read this on the Atkins & Pearce website. Thought it might help
This wick has a cotton outer braid surrounding a thin filament of zinc. Zinc core wick produces the coolest flame and offers the most rigidity of all cored wick, providing support during pouring and burning.
Concern over trace elements of lead has resulted in the Consumer Product Safety Commission defining a lead cored wick to be one containing greater than .06% lead by weight in the metal. Zinc wire has a maximum level of lead impurities of .004%, well below the standard.
As far as I'm concerned Zinc Wicks are tottally safe...
They've used Zinc on penny's all these years...
Plus its in the morning bowl of cereal also...LOL...
-
Oh yea I can smell it. Let hope for a mild stink.
To answer you second set of questions if you use quality FOs it should not fade over time. Now color is another story the best answer is to keep your candle out of direct sunlight and away from florescent lighting. Use UV will also help stop the fading.[\quote]
May I ask what florescent lighting does to a candle?

Candle Science has a helpful wick guide, they may or may not have your selections to choose from... But heres the site anyway. follow the drop down menu. Worth a try

I would like to know what the standard size is for pillars my self LOL...
