I have several bottles of preservatives that I bought a while back and just won't be using. How long are they good for? I have phenonpip, Liquapar and Germaben II. TIA

I have several batchs of soap that I made during the late spring early summer that have developed DOS. Can the soap still be used? I hate to just throw out 3-4 batches of soap. Not sure what caused the DOS as I have sued the same ingredients in the last month or so and the bars are fine. Only thing I can think of is heat and humidity as we don't have central air and the window unit sometimes can't keep up real well.

I use the 8oz. square mason jars. The glass is thick like any canning jar and I have not had too much trouble wicking. I use a RRD wick for most of my fo's in 100% soy. I do sometimes get a bit of a mushroom but I also get a very clean jar and good mp.

I have not done any soap in about 6 weeks. It's been hot and humid here and in our old farmhouse I don't have air or a dehumidifier so my soap wasn't very happy! Anyway, I just got a few new FOs from Peaks and was wondering how they act. I want to try Cool Citrus Basil, Green Tea, and Ginger Passion. I usually use 1oz ppo. So any info on these three FOs would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Depending on how many you want you might try a search in the crafts section of Ebay. Go under the crafts then to the candle/soap making section. That's where I first bought my wooden scoops and got them pretty cheap.

Don't know about the legalities but I do know where I live (rural small town area) that a lot of the small convenience type stores won't let you use a cc or debit card for purchases under a certain dollar amount. For what the cc card companies charge if the purchase is below that certain amount they end up losing money on the transaction.

Could you PLEASE send some of that rain north!! We have had about 1 inch of rain since the first of July and it's getting mighty dry. I live in an old farm house without ac and it's been close to 100 here for several days. I noticed I am starting to get small DOS on some of my soaps Hope they don't all get ruined on me.

When I first started making and testing my soy candles I was able to do it at work. The only way I had to melt my soy was in a microwave and it worked just fine. I used a big glass pyrex measuring cup to melt in.

When I do my goatsmilk cp soap I add the powdered gm (1 TBSP ppo) to my oils and stick blend it to death before I add my lye water. So far it has worked fine for me.

Go to the pvsoap.com website. They have a recipe there for s shea/mango cp soap that I have done several times. It's a nice soap, hard bar and good lather.

I do a fisherman's soap, but so far have only done it with M&P. I also make a oil concoction with the anise in it. I have used it several times this year when DH and I have gone fishing and I have out fished him every time Course, I do that anyway but... I like doing it with the M&P cause I do it in a tube mold then slice it and put it in a tin. Good for keeping in your tackle box that way.

I use the same stuff for soaping and cooking with the exceptions of my stick blender and the plastic containers I use to mix my lye. So far have not had any problems.

Dixie, was it humid in Alabama yesterday? It doesn't take long for the lye to pull moisture from the air and do what yours did.

You get a great in the pot swirl going, you get it in your mold, get it all tucked in for the duration and you look over on the counter and see your bowl of FO SITTING THERE I hate it when that happens!!

I have used Peaks CM in my 100% soy and had great throw. I have also used it in B&B stuff too.

I can't get DH to try my soap either. He says he HAS to have a deorderant soap so my soap just won't do. He complains about "chaffing" sometimes and always blames it on my using softner in the wash, I wonder if it isn't from using a soap that doesn't rinse clean.

I've done Mango Papaya in soy and everyone loves it. I have also done B&B stuff with it and I like it there too. I want to try cping it soon.

Bunny, I am doing a "thing" for fisherman. It's a blend of oil and EO's that is applied to your bait after it's on the hook. This stiff is supposd to cover up the human scent on your bait and it also supposed to be an attractant to the fish. I have tried it out myself and DH and I seem to thinks it works. I used the stuff and DH didn't and I caught more than he did (but then I usually do ) So I am handing a bunch of this stuff out to fishermen that I know and having them test it for me. I want to color it a bluish green, but am having probs finding something to color it with.

I tried some FD&C colors that I had I think they originally came from Brambleberry but they didn't work so good. I have little beads of color and it won't stay mixed. Is there anything I can use to color straight oil? Thanks!

I am making something I call Fishermans Friend,it's to go along with my Fisherman's soap. I contains oil and EO and is used to mask the human scent on your bait. My question is do I have to list ingredients on the label since it isn't for "human" use? It's that secret ingredient thing ya know

I make a mp fisherman's soap and want to do a fisherman's oil to go along with it. My soap is just a clear base with anise EO in it. What kind of oil do you think I should use for the carrier oil in my Fisherman's oil? (which will basically be carrier oil and anise EO) I was thinking grapeseed or castor. Any suggestions will be appreciated. TIA

When I have done gm soap I have used powdered gm. I mix it into my oil at 1 tbsp pp. I have scented mine several different scents, and all of them are at least a light tan color. I figured it was from the gm, not the scent since I doubt that CLV or satsuma guava would turn my soap tan.
