  1. I did a few in Christmas mugs, about the same size with a HTP126 wick. I tested them, I let them burn for 4 & 5 hours at a time to see if they would get to hot and crack. The outsides of the mugs really didn't get very warm, my jars get much hotter. The mugs are all thick and heavy. So far, so good.
  2. Thank you SoSoy and Tereasa. I made more today and did it like I always do, in the melting pitcher. The temp dropped almost as fast as in the pyrex cup when I added the fo. I just had never noticed it before. The consistancy of the wax when I poured it really threw me, it was so grainy. Thanks again.
  3. I have always heated wax in the melting pot in a double boiler, add the color and fo to the wax in the pot. Today i tried pouring the wax in a pyrex measuring cup before adding anything. I used EZsoy, heated to 185 degrees, poured into the warmed pyrex cup, it reached 175 degrees real fast. I didn't use color today, added the fo at 175 and the temp dropped immediately to 165 degrees. The fo was room temp. When I stirred and poured at 100 it wasn't really slushy it was more grainy. Will the temp drop that fast affect the candle? The tops are real smooth, looked right after it cooled. I usually use GB415, not real familer with EZsoy.
  4. I am just starting to test 6 & 8 oz tins. I use gb415 and 1.5fo. I have been testing wicks from all the wick kits I have, all so far the wicks have been to small. I am trying small and working up because I am concerned about how hot the tin gets. I haven't found anything on the old threads that talks about that. Do the tins get really hot to touch? I am afraid, even with the warning labels, someone will pick it up and get burned. I have never bought a candle in a tin, no experience with one. Thanks for any input.
  5. KandleKrazy: Have you found a place that you can buy the warmers at wholesale? The places I have looked are pretty expensive.
  6. I used EZ Soy yesterday for the first time. I used 1 pound, 1/2 t coconut oil, small amount of color. So far have no cracking, no frosting, no wet spots and have smooth, shinny top. Really a great looking candle with stong cold throw. Is it just to early to be seeing any of the ugly things happening?
  7. Did you use the same amount of CO as you did BW? And thank you for your response.
  8. Has anyone tried coconut oil in EZ Soy? I have 10 pounds that I have not tried yet and not sure if coconut oil would help frosting or not.
  9. Hi Stella, This batch has really been interesting, changing so fast. Now the bottoms just look speckled. Yes I do wash and dry jars, this batch all happened to be new tho. Now on the sides they are getting what looks like little tiny bubbles. I heat the oven to 150, turn off it cools down and just shortly before I pour I put the jars in a few minutes, so don't really know the temp of the jars. Do you think it would be worth melting them down or is it just going to be a bad batch? I will let them sit a few days tho just to see what happens. Thanks again for all your help.
  10. Thanks all, and thanks Susanna for the warning label advice.
  11. Stella, The sweating must be exactly what happened. They are changing real fast today. The tops are now completely smooth and dry, a little whitish but even. All around the sides are looking more even. The bottoms look completely wet. All adhered well to the jars. If they keep the wet look on the bottom or if they don't completely look dry will that affect the way they burn? The other thing I did was I heated the jars, the wax was below 90 degrees but still not slushy so I poured them and the jars were warmer than I usually pour. Thank you for your help.
  12. I have something happening that I haven't seen before. Made candles yesterday and it looks like the coconut oil is seeping out all over the candles. I used 1/2 t with 2 pounds wax and 1.5 fo. I put the coconut oil in the unmelted wax, heated to 180, added color and fo at 175. I have done this exactly the same several times before and never had this happen. Anyone have any ideas? I use GB415 wax, stirred 4 minutes after adding fo.
  13. I have never made wickless candles, wondering is the amount of fo the same? If they are heated over and over again does the fragrance hold up? One more question, what all do you put on the jar for warning, does anyone have a warning label just for wickless? Thanks
  14. Hi Jami, The candle with 1T didn't burn hot, had 1/4" melt pool, but hasn't gotten any better cold or hot throw. I have changed the wicks several times in the 1/2 t candles to get a cooler burn, but lost most of the hot throw. I am going to try using 1/4 t of coconut oil next to see if still makes a nice looking candle but burns cooler. I have ordered some CD wicks, have you used them and if so how do you like them?
  15. I have been testing with coconut oil with 4 different fo. Haven't had any wet spots but haven't had any difference with hot throw. I tested at 2,5,7, now 10 days and have now gotten some hot throw. I used 1/2 teaspoon in 3 candles and 1 tablespoon in 1 candle. The one with 1 T really has been the best as far as being a really nice looking candle and had the first hot throw. The ones with 1/2 t are burning so hot, 1/2" melt pool in less than an hour. I used 415 wax in 8 oz jelly jars. Has anyone else noticed theirs burning so hot? I used the same wick I use any other time without coconut oil.
  16. Thank you, now I know where to try again. I love that scent, sure hope I can make one of these work.
  17. How long are you letting candles cure with coconut oil? I poured an 8oz, used 1/4 t coconut oil and didn't see any difference, I let it cure 5 days. Yesterday I used a pound of wax, 1.5 fo, and 1 T of coconut oil. I kept in in the refrigerator, chipped out 1 T. and decided to melt it before putting it in the wax, it was more like 2 T. melted. I used 1 T melted, I use 415 wax. The candles look great, adhesion is good and the tops shine and a very smooth.
  18. I have tested sandelwood from 3 different suppliers and still can't get one with a good hot throw. I am using 8 oz jelly jars, 415 wax, and have tried many different wicks. Does anyone have one that has a good strong hot throw? Thanks
  19. Thank you all for your help, I am making a candle this afternoon with less fo. Can't wait, sure would be nice to just to light it and enjoy.
  20. The melt pool is usually good, 1/4 to 1/2" in 2 hrs, the heavier fo's don't reach the sides of the jars then the flame gets real weak.
  21. Thanks, I will make those changes. What size jar are you using with that wick? Also how long do you cure them?
  22. I have been using GB415 with 10% fo in 8oz jelly jars. I have used both Indiana Candle Supply or Millcreek fo's. For the test candles I heat the wax to 180 degrees, ad little color at 180 and fo at 175, stirring 2 minutes and pour at around 100 degrees after stirring again. I have used Candlewealth 3C wicks and various sizes of HTP's, I keep changing the wicks when one dosen't work. I cure them from 1 to 2 weeks. I burn them and have nothing. Others take them to try and get nothing. After several tries I put the jar on my warming plate or tart burner and they smell great, just not when the wicks are burned. This is several fo's. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone help me please???
  23. David & Mary: That is exactly what I am looking for, I have been saying it wrong. All I am interested in is the chance someone would sue me for one reason or another. There is always someone anxious to sue over anything. My homeowners will cover $2500 in supplies and inventory but that is it. Thanks for the replies.
  24. Thank you all for your help, I have now talked to 8 different insurance companies and they have all told me they will not cover candle liability insurance. Our home owners will not cover me (they also are our auto ins co). I am really grasping looking for names of companies. The companies I have called I got off the internet. Do you have names of companies? I live in Illinois. Thanks again.
