  1. I love NG's Christmas Cabin(renamed to Holiday Resort, or Northern Resort,,,,,, awesome throw in soy!!!! As well as, MoonLight Path, Mint Mango Tea and Lily of the Valley.....
  2. I use several of BNL FO's... I recently ordered the Sandalwood Vanilla,,, hmmm.. thinking I must have candlenose... all I smelled was Baby Powder... Maybe it does better in soaps.. versus candles...
  3. I'm a bowler,, in my 50's.. "wicked",, used to be a bowling ball name.. lol
  4. I use 3 oz. dixie plastic cups.... no cleanup... Measure, pour into your wax, and throw away...
  5. I was going to change to a glossy label, however, I was warned on another candle board about the yellowing of these labels. I opted to stay with my avery label and cover the label with a clear matching label,, giving them a glossy look.
  6. Some areas have local beekeepers. If you check with your local Ag office, you might be able to find some BW, located very close to you. I purchase mine locally, for $3.00 a pound. Since he doesn't have to package and mail the produce, and I dont' have to pay shipping costs.. the price is very reasonable.
  7. Thx Kaybee,,, I've started pouring votives up to about 1/8" or so from the top... letting them cool, then filling in the craters with a spoon, letting them cool a bit more... then repouring the tops. So far it's working and I still have the starburst look on the top like they're supposed to have. Problem is,,,, wayyy to much work... !!! :undecided not sure this will be very profitable...:rolleyes2
  8. There was information about this bee thing on Katie Couric's news channel last night... Case of the disappearing bees. Scientists are not sure what's causing it... however, honey biproducts are used in many things... Also our fruits and vegetable industry could begin to suffer with the lack of bees for pollination. The story was pretty interesting... I'm thinking, I'd better start hoarding beeswax...:lipsrseal
  9. I've seen many soy vendors market the ugly holey tops and the frosting as part of the unique characteristics of the soyway and sell bundles of their candles... It's unfortunate that customers dont' realize there really are "nice" looking soy candles.
  10. Poured some new votives yesterday,,, hmmm.. must be the weather change or something... every votive had some sort of small to medium sized hole left in the top..... frustration... grrrrr!!!! I tried to fix with heat gun,, but once you melt the wax.. the pretty feathering effect of the wax is gone. I've never had this problem with my soy votives,,,, is this pin hole problem a common thing in palm?? I cool my candles inside of an old cooler that's covered, so they cool nice and slow... Thinkin' if this is a charasteristic of the wax, I may want to dump it in it's testing phase. I'm using feathered palm wax from BCN, with 1 oz of FO per pound.... Thx much...
  11. I attended the BC convention last year.... it's definately well worth the price. Great demo's, wonderful people, I took part in the swap. There were hundreds of FO samples to smell... lots of techiques to learn My daughter and I will go again this year...
  12. I have great success with Cajun's FO's... Santa's Cookies Christmas Tree Amber Romance BlackBerry Sage Magnolia I use EL container, with 1 oz of beeswax per pound...
  13. I'm pouring 70 - 4oz tins for our bowling tournament. Each of the gals participating will receive a small candle, with 1st annual, and our association name.
  14. I've always had the best success at pouring soy, when I let my wax cool to what I call the "applesauce" stage...I can't tell you what temperature that is, because I go by appearance of the wax. HTH's
  15. I've found those dips in my soy candles, when I've poured too cool... Alot of people smooth them off with a quick zap of a heat gun.
  16. Clueless here,,, what is "fish in a bag"..?? For some reason a picture of "shake and bake fish".. comes to mind...
  17. I haven't heard of it...I'm sorta thinking though.. it's not a good marketing technique... If you are dropping FO into a melt pool, that candle must have been already ignited to form the pool... I can see customers not extinquishing the candle to add the FO, dropping the FO into the melt pool, while the wick still ignited... I'd be worried about a flash flame or something like that, thinking on the order of adding gas to a fire. I'm not sure that an insurance company would want to insure a product with those types of liabilities possible.
  18. I so agree Deb..... I vend at several 800-900 vendor shows, and inevitably someone has purchased goods that are put in paper bags and plastic bags that are falling apart by tme they get to my booth.. It has always been my practice to offer free bags to help make those customers shopping experience a little better. And many times those people purchase from me.
  19. Chris I'm about 45 minutes due north of you...... With such a group of us all together... maybe a road trip is in store... perhaps to BC... and EL... Are some of you planning to attend BC's convention in June? I was there last year... had an awesome time...
  20. I have great success with cotton wicks in my soybean/beeswax blend. I have seen many people post they use RRD's in soy and palm waxes. RRD's do stand straight when they burn. HTH's *S*
  21. Some of the shows I vend at, that do allow the wooden roses. Their requirments are on the import goods, such as wreaths, wood, etc, at least 50% of the item you sell,, must be hand embelished... If your arranging them.. and scenting them as well... I think it would qualify for most of the craft shows. There are some shows that don't allow the import stuff at all,, even if it's hand embelished... but those are usually very heavily juried shows, 90% handcrafted...where they're looking more for pottery, sculptures, paintings etc. HTH's *S*
  22. I bought a couple of the wood wick candles that are currently on the market, just to try them out, see what they're all about. I found the wicks to smoke... I didnt' note any crackling... One of the containers broke while burning. There are no wick tabs on these wicks.. their just stuck in the wax...
  23. An interesting concept Suds.... From the marketing end, I would think they'd be broke in no time, with this hit and miss methodology. I mean one could send out thousands upon thousands of emails, and perhaps get one hit, from someone who has an account. But it does give us another outlook on what could be happening in the industry... I know consumer lists, accounts etc., have been an ongoing security concern for years with the integration of the internet... just this week this same conversation came up on one of my supplier boards as several received this "spoof"... which still leads me to believe there a list integrity issue as these people are "current" account people... then again, one really never knows. It's only my speculation. I think it's great that we have a place, such as these forums, to discuss issues like these, and brainstorm a little, share experiences. It keeps us healthy in our businesses...
  24. Good points Suds,,, Wow,,I've been in business for 12 years, and have never had an email spoof regarding an "account".. other than the paypal thing... I carry several biz credit cards,, have my own shopping basket with credit cards.. and other than offers for credit cards,, or the get rich quick offers to sell my stuff on ebay the usual junk you find in your email, I have never had anyone say they are contacting me regarding "my account".. Gosh, if they had.. I'd be on the phone and checking to see and tracing where that info might have come from...(dont' get me thinkin' now.. LOL"...), reporting abuse of email.. etc. I mean.. I do everything online, from ordering to bill paying, sending cards etc. With all that.. this was the only spoof I had. This scam company must have quite an operating budget that they could send out tons and tons of emails, searching for a handful of people, who use these types of "money transfer" accounts. I'm sorta thinkin' that a scam company would target someone like mastercard or visa, some sort of "account" that almost every has. Hmmmm... I mentioned before.. I've never had another email,, since I closed that account. It's liike.. the mailing list got updated and my name was dropped off...which leads me to believe, there a current list of account holders someplace... Dang... they always have to give us something to think about.. huh?? Where is Mission Impossible when ya need them..
