  1. Do you turn you wax off after each use or keep the wax melted? TIA
  2. heated my oven to 175 then turned it off and put the salts in on a cookie sheet. Its just so humid where I live and I wanted to see if the scent held up in the oven. I'll let you know what happens.
  3. I used the css, still wet though I used about 1-1/4 cup salt and 1/4 oz fo and 2 drops liquid dye.Thought about popping it into a warm oven and seeing if that helps dry it but don't know if it would ruin it, might go ahead and try just to see what happens. Maybe I'm using too much fo, I'll try another batch with less today and see how it does. I put the wet salt one on each end of my house in plug ins just to see how they do today.
  4. Would love to get this to work to sell with my plug ins. A few years ago I bought a bunch of them to sell but didn't like the way they seemed top heavy and might tilt and spill wax so I never sold them. Salt would work great and no worries about spilled wax. I was thinking of finding nice small glass jars and tying a wooden scoop to it, making it more high end. Made a test batch last night but still not dry this morning, put in on a cookie sheet to spread it out hopefully that will help.
  5. I cant swirl. I have tried in the mold, in the pot and all I get is globs of color, pretty color but still globs. I have swirl envy
  6. ty, I had fun trying, I made another one tonight and I like the size better but had a bit of trouble with the interfacing. It looks a bit wrinkled. Hopefully my third try will be the one!
  7. After seeing the awsome purses y'al make I wanted to give it a try. Nothing like the ones y'all make but still I'm pretty proud of it I made my own pattern and didnt get the size right for what I wanted. Handle is too short and I wanted the purse wider but it was fun to make and Im ready to try again. Sorry I couldnt get a photo to post
  8. I second katie jo's pink lemonade, from just scent. Now many of her fo's work for me but this one throws great both hot and cold in gb 464.
  9. I used to make soaps. Its been a few years and I'm ready to start again but have found I pretty much had to start reading and learning all over again. Yesterday I did a search on youtube for soap making and came across a bunch of videos of soap being made. It was a good refresher course for me, it helped me remember the whole process. So my suggestion is if you have read and read and studied the process and feel you are ready for your first batch check out youtube and you will get a good visual to help you along.
  10. I think it finally sunk into my brain. Thank you !
  11. Salt soap is scrubby, though I don't think its as scrubby as Lava soap. Lava soap feels like sand to me,lol. Getting your mouth washed out with Lava soap is an experience you'll never forget!!
  12. So if I decide to round up gm for oils I'm closer to being accurate than if I rounded out the oz because the units are smaller? Rounding up 39.79 to 40 oz would take me further from being accurate than rounding 1128.02 up to 1129 gm Ok I just checked on that and no its the same outcome. So if Im understanding this turning into gms will only be more accurate if I dont round up at all. Once I start rounding numbers I might as well stay with the original units. Rounding up 39.70 oz to 40oz gives me 1129 gms Converting 39.78oz to gms gives me 1128.02 and rounding it up stills gives me 1129 gms or 40 oz.
  13. I used the soap nuts conversion calculator. I'm going to try putting the numbers in again and see what I come up with, maybe I miss typed a number. I rechecked and I was getting that number because I didnt round the oz number out first. So I should always round the numbers out before converting? I know I read somewhere it was common practice to round up for oils and down for lye. Do you round out the gm also? Ok I think Im understanding it now If I put 39.79oz in the conversion chart I get 1128.02 gm. If I round up for oils that gives me 1129 gm. If I round up first and convert 39.80 into gm I get 1128.31 and round it up for oils I still get 1129 gm. Sorry to be a pain but me and math have always been a bad combo
  14. I read where it was easier and more accurate to use gr. instead of oz. when soaping. Im wondering if someone can tell me why its a better way to weigh? Converting 39.78 oz of oil is giving me 1128.02752144 gr Im guessing you would just do 1128.02 but Im not getting why that's better or easier than weighing the 39.78 in oz?
  15. I live about 15 miles south of Hunstville
  16. Thanks Babs I wrote your recipe down to give it a try. I see your from Alabama too.
  17. thanks for your help I'm hoping to be able to make a batch this afternoon.
  18. I used to make a salt soap from an old recipe on the old boards here candletech. The only oil it called for was coconut and you used the same amount of no iodine table salt. It made a great bar of soap lots of suds and I couldn't keep it on the shelves. I'm just not remembering how it worked amount wise. I do know its a 50/50 recipe. I wish I could find it in the archives but its not there anymore. When I enter my mold size into summer bee meadows recipe calculator its giving me 74.89 oz oil and 74.89 salt
  19. Sorry for bothering y'all. I found the summer bee meadow site on a search here and got the right number from it.
  20. Ty, no sense in paying extra if there is no difference
  21. In the last few years of not making soap it seems I have forgotten everything I knew about soap making.Still cant find my recipe book with all my old notes in it. My soapMaker program didn't save my soap recipes. Im trying to remember how to make a simple CP salt soap to get me started back. I know I used to make it 50% Coconut oil and 50% salt.At least that's what I think I remember. If someone would be so kind as to read what I figured and tell me if Im on the right track I'd be grateful. I don't remember how much my mold held so I did w (3.5) x h (2.75) x l ( 20) x .40 and came up with 77.00, half of which is 38.50 so I put that in my program then added 38.50 for salt. Im hoping I got this much right. I don't remember if I'm suppose to change anything in the soap maker in the lye water ratio its giving me a N/A and a lye discount of 6%. saying 6.88 oz of lye is needed water discount is 0%, 17.04 oz of water needed Am I even close? I don't know, it just feels like Im forgetting something or not doing something right here. I'm not having much luck searching through posts so any more places to read more and refresh my memory would be great. TIA
  22. Anyone use this? I noticed its a $1.00 more per 2 lbs At AAA Chemicals. Their technical grade says 99% pure. I have always just used lye from Lowe's but I hate going in a buying it more than 1 at a time. I wouldn't mind paying a bit extra if it would make my soaps better.
  23. Just wanted to say hi to everyone. I've been away about 2 years due to health issues. I'm finally to a point where I can start making soaps and candles again and I'm excited I have been keeping busy during this time away though. We have our farm now. All the goats milk I can use:yay: The one bad thing is I have lost my notes and recipes. I have torn this place apart the last few weeks searching for them and all I can figure out is sometime during the remodeling of our house they got misplaced, so I'll be starting over from scratch. Its upsetting to say the least but it will also give me a chance to rethink my products and hopefully improve on them. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here again
  24. they look wonderful! Sent you a message.
  25. I know this has been covered before but when I search for it I get none I must be searching wrong
