  1. Hi Erin Lea, I am using the 10oz. candlina jar. They also call it a bulb jar. I am using a paper size 60 wick which I have always used with this jar and candle. As for too much fo, I started with 1/2 ounce but couldn't smell anything when lit either, that's why I added 3/4 to 1/2 lb. wax. The fragrance is apple cinnamon with red liquid dye. Alot of dye because it was turning pink with a little. This is the first time I have had this problem. I've only used 3 other fo's. I appreciate your help. Janet
  2. When I light my candle I can't smell anything. Is this what you call a hot throw? When the candle isn't lit, it smells great. Is this what you call a cold throw? Do I have to wait until there's a big melt pool? Is my wick too big? I am using GW444, 1 3/4 oz. FO to a lb. These are container candles. I waited 8 days after I poured this one. Your help will be appreciated. Janet
  3. I am also new to candle making, but this is what I have learned to do. I get great wax adhesion to my jars with gw444. No frosting or wet spots. But the tops are terrible. So, I put a thick towel around the jar and only expose the top. Then hold my heat gun about 9 inches from the jar top and slowly melt the wax and only come in closer at spots that need it. And only for a few seconds. Then cover the whole jar to cool slowly. I may have to do it a few times. It takes a longer but it usually works pretty good. I really hate putting that much time into it though. I'm going to try ecosoya 135 and see if the tops are better for me.
  4. I was using the hot glue gun at first and I found after burning some in one or two jars the wick would come loose. I was afraid it might happen to someone I sold them to. So... I am using wick stickums from Bittercreek now. They are great! I also use the wick tool.
  5. I'm one of those people who are trying to have a healthier lifestyle. That's why I have chosen soy. Everyone I know is interested in soy. I've read alot of articles praising soy candles for their cleaner burning. I'm very glad I've chose to begin my candle making with soy.
  6. Hi, I am still new to candle making. I have only used 3 FO so far. From reading all these threads I feel I should ask this question. I am using GW444. Has anyone gotten good results with apple cinnamon? If so, where did you purchase your FO. And is it 1oz. to 1 lb? I've gotten some requests for this. Thank you so much for your input. Janet
  7. Are there any books for making soy candles someone can recommend? TIA Janet
  8. Thank you everyone. I have decided to stick with the 444 wax. Where do you get HTP 126 and 128 wicks and Eco 8 and 14 wicks? Janet
  9. What I'm using is from Soycandle.com Paper size 60. The melt pool is great for me. It just won't get clear to the sides. So I swirl the melt pool around and so far with the C3 wax it's cleaning the sides. I bought about 200 of these jars because I want to stick with them cause I like them. I hope this wick is going to be okay. :undecided
  10. Hello, I am using the 9 oz bulb jar from the Jar Store. Also Soycandle.com carries it but calls it 10 oz candelina jar. I am struggling to find the correct wick for it. Has anyone used this jar and found a good wick for it? I don't know if I am just trying to be a perfectionist about it or not. Has anyone used this jar? What wick did you use? How many hours did yours burn? I appreciate your wisdom so much. Thanks. Janet
  11. I tried Cargil C3 yesterday and really like it. I haven't waited two weeks to test the fragrance cause I wanted to see how it would burn. But how much FO do you add to 1 pound? Is it 1 ounce like all the rest? BTW, I really like the fragrance throw with 444. Has anyone else tried both and see a difference? Thanks in advance for your time and advice. Janet
  12. Thanks, ah-soy. I wondered what wet spots were! Okay, I will try your advice and just accept what I get. Thanks again. Janet
  13. Sometimes I have one or two jars from a batch that the wax pulls away from the jar in a spot. Is there anything I can do about it after the fact. I have heard the wax cooled too fast. That is why this happens. Do you sell them like this? Thanks for all your help. Janet
  14. I hope I can put this question out so you can understand it. After I pour my wax with FO and color into my jars, I have a little wax left over in my measuring cup. I go ahead right away and start melting more wax for another batch in my melting pot. Can I pour it right into my measuring cup with my left over wax from previous pouring in it and then add more FO and color for my next batch? If I can does the previous wax need to be heated to a certain temperature? I always add extra wax to my measuring cup to make sure I have enough for my jars. I appreciate all your help you have given me so far.
  15. Thanks, Susan. I'm looking forward to seeing how they will look next year.
  16. Thanks for the info. Now I won't feel guilty about making too many.
  17. If I make Christmas holiday scented candles and don't use all of them, will they keep till next year? If so, how do you store them?
