  1. Yeah, but what would we name the candles in popular vacation spots like New York City and Los Angeles? Think anyone would buy candles with names like "Smog" "Crime" and "Traffic"?
  2. The scent "Tiger Eyes" could become "Snake Eyes" Use a man's scent, color the candle black and call it "Black Jack" And you could use the scent "Monkey Farts" and call it "Monkey Craps" (Just kidding.)
  3. Sorry, that pic is pretty dark. Here it is unlit. **edited to say: It's still dark. Am I the world's worst photographer or what?
  4. Nobody can patent the name of a city, so you're free to use "Paris" and "New York, New York" "Treasure Island" is a famous book, and book titles cannot be patented so you're free to use that one, too. "Tropicana" is already a common household word. (Think orange juice.) Of course, you couldn't use their trademarked logo art. That would require licensing.
  5. The lines on the outside are usually caused by pouring wax that is too cool, or the mold was too cool. Pour at the recommended pouring temp for your particular wax (usually around 180 degrees), and warm up your metal molds before pouring. The temperature on the FO's is the "flash point." A flash point is the temperature at which a substance will flash, or catch fire when a flame is passed over it.
  6. I know they're plain, but I love how ivory pillars look when grouped together in a candle garden. (Especially when they're lit and glow all the way down.)
  7. I like those little glass holders. You must have a really steady hand to pour tealights.
  8. Those are so cute. And I love that bowl!
  9. Beautiful. It put me in the mood for fall, too.
  10. Wow, the chunks really show when you use that technique.
  11. Those came out nice. What wax did you use?
  12. It's the other way around. To be really accurate, you need to measure by weight. Until you get a scale though, you can use a measuring spoon. (1 Tablespoon fragrance oil equals approximately 1/2 ounce.)
  13. Oh wow, those are fantastic!! I'll bet those will sell like crazy!!
  14. I usually do my repours after unmolding in case the pillar is fugly and not worth the trouble. So I guess they all have holes like this before the repour, but until this one fell apart, I never noticed.
  15. Nope, no water in my wax. The candle "cut" itself by cracking in half. Anyway, on another thread Alan answered the question of where the bubble came from. He explained that relief holes don't let air OUT, it lets air IN. Then, of course, the repour fills any air holes.
  16. You could also do the repour after unmolding. If your wick pin was on the outside of the mold, remove it and slide the pillar out of the mold. Then re-insert the pin to keep the hole open while doing the repour. (If you insert a wick instead of the pin, the wick will be smaller than the wick hole and hot wax can run out the bottom.) There's two reasons why you might want to do the repour after unmolding: 1) The candle cooled so much it pulled away from the mold, and you don't want to risk having the repour wax get down between the two and ruin the surface. 2) You're not sure the candle came out right, and you don't want to go to the trouble of a repour on a fugly that will get remelted anyway.
  17. How about naming them after Las Vegas landmarks? Mango Papaya could be "Tropicana" French Market could become "Paris" or "Eiffel Tower" Coconut Lime could be "Treasure Island"
  18. Thank you both for the suggestions. Switching to "enhanced interface" made it work again.
  19. I put this one in the freezer because it was stuck, and accidentally left it too long. When it came out of the mold it was cracked in half. Check out this bubble. It formed between the relief holes!
  20. but can't. When I click on the "Attach Files" link below, nothing happens. My smilies aren't working either. Anyone else having trouble?
  21. Ooh, I love that deep green color.
  22. Even with relief holes and a wick pin, this pillar formed a big bubble. I posted it in the gallery--here's the link. http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?p=19259#post19259
  23. Wow, those are beautiful. I love Peak's Rose Bouquet.
  24. Wow, those have a really nice finish.
